Newborn. Hands down. Toddlerhood in a walk in the park compared to the newborn days!!

First 9 months were hell, first 18 months were really hard.

C is only almost 20 months, but so far, definitely months 2-4. She was fine as a brand new born (hard, of course, but I could handle it). But man was she a difficult infant. Colicky, not sleeping, crabby all the time... Ever since then she has been fairly easy, relatively speaking. Early toddler is way easier than those first few months.

But I fully acknowledge that I have a LOT of stages to go before she's even in school.

2.5 - 3. Definitely toughest

@blackbird: word! I shudder thinking about month 3, 4 was better after sleep training, and then regression in 5. I have no clue how I worked, functioned, and drove on such little sleep.

My son is only 19 months - but I'm enjoying toddlerhood much more than the newborn/infant stage. But that's just because of personal preference - He was a super easy newborn and we've been very lucky in the sleep department for the most part.

The hardest was probably the past month when his top canines were coming in. I literally thought I was going to lose my mind - constant tantrums, clinginess, and not happy with anything for a straight month. I feel bad because I'm sure he had a lot of pain, but it was definitely rough.

3's...lots of tantrums, throwing themselves, wanting to be independent but not understanding dangerous situations...and all of it feels like a reflection of my parenting which is I now know it's not. In the moment of a huge meltdown in public, it feels embarrassing.

Newborn, but the 3's are a close second so far and he won't actually be 3 until next month. We're about a month into the behavior change that I hear comes with 3, and I can see we're in for it.
