My little Caidence is turning 5 at the end of the month and sadly I haven't given her party much thought due to being ill these last couple months. Last year she had a batman themed birthday at chuck e cheese but this year money is a bit tight so we will probably just do something here at the house and invite some of her friends. What kind of games and activities should we have? Any ideas are appreciated!

Hmmm... I saw this cute activity idea (my sis is going to do something similar with a Superhero theme) where you get a piece of plywood, paint a bad guy on it, and give each kid a can of silly string - they get to spray the bad guy with it. This picture actually has Ursula on it!

The koalas are super cute, but not really "mermaid". I really like the wind chime idea. I'm not sure that the seashells would sound at all like chimes, but it looks neat!

Besides the 1st bday the 5th bday is what I am looking forward to the most.
Mermaid theme...how about transforming the party area into an underground water space using streamers in blue, green, and shimmery stuff. I'd hire a bubble entertainer to create giant bubbles to encase the children in. For a craft I'd make magic mermaid wands. Fill the wands with glitter and sea creatures. Then top with plastic sea horses, starfish, and mermaids.

Aww, my 5 year old is obsessed with Ariel! We might do a LM theme for her next party in a few months.
I don't have any mermaid theme ideas, but for DD's past 5th birthday, we did "Pin the Tail on the Pony" (it was a My Little Pony theme).... maybe you can do "Pin the Tail on the Mermaid"? I just downloaded images from Google and blew up a pony image to poster size, and cut out tails for each kid.
Other games we've done at recent 5-6 yo parties are pretty standard too, like musical chairs, piñata, and decorate your own cupcake.

What about decorating cookies/cupcakes? You could do sugar cookies in shells and sea creatures, etc.

@cyndistar3: You could totally go *all out* with a few sequins (for the mermaid's top) and glitter for the tails, or have the kiddos draw on scales . . . the possibilities are endless!

I especially love the snow globe idea. Could be fun as a take home, or as an activity!
