I'm attending an outdoor wedding that starts at noon in early October in NYC. I have a dress I was gonna wear, but it's long and feels a bit too formal. Plus I want to be comfortable since I'll be chasing the kids (they're in the wedding). What would you wear?
I'm toying with the idea of a shell, cardigan, and a short poufy skirt. But I want to wear comfortable flats!

I know this may be a boring answer but you can never ever go wrong with the LBD! Especially here in NYC. Something like this could work for daytime, evening, formal or more casual:
You can accessorize with a colorful necklace or a cardigan (or both!)
And it's a softer material so it would be really comfortable.

I love the idea of simple black, soft comfy material, and easy to accessorize!

@mrs. wagon: Yes LOVE that! And I don't think the length makes it too formal at all. That would be awesome for an October outdoor affair! I personally would prefer to cover my legs anyway 
Might be chilly. you could also get a colorful wrap/pashmina.

@SweetiePie: I HOPE it's chilly, I'm like a fireball all the time and running around after the kids is gonna make me sweaty!! I love the sleeves on the dress you linked, too... my arms are not looking great these days...
