I usually just buy regular large eggs, but I am considering switching to cage free...not sure yet! What type of eggs do you buy?

We buy brown cage-free. I wish we could buy organic eggs but they're $5 a dozen and we just can't afford it.

I try to get free-range, organic eggs, if I can find them. I learned that cage-free simply means that they aren't caged, it doesn't mean that they are free to roam about as they please; they may still be kept in very close quarters, like a small barn or shed, not strictly considered a "cage." And organic is good because it means they haven't received vaccines or antibiotics.

Farm fresh! My coworker raises chickens; they roam free aren't injected etc etc. I get a dozen for $2!!!

@Sweet T: Do you have any farms near you, or even year-round farmers markets? They are usually cheaper straight from the farmer, rather than in the store. Like @regberadaisy: a coworker of mine raises chickens and charges $2 per dozen!

Farm fresh for us. They're $4.80/dozen and we eat 2 dozen a week. We make very little money, but we spend a decent chunk on good eggs and organic produce. We think it's worth it!

@YourSilverLining; we buy farm fresh (organic), too, but I have TOTALLY seen those chickens eat some weird sh**.
Sometimes it even changes the flavor of the eggs a little.

Jumbo or XL eggs from an egg farm - $1.25 per dozen! Can't beat that. We also have friends that raise chickens and when he has extras, he'll give them to me!

The cheapest large eggs we can find. We normally buy the 2 1/2 - 5 dozen sets from Walmart.

April-October, I can buy eggs from a farm near my work. They are amazingly delicious and have bright orange yolks! Otherwise, regular ole large eggs from TJ's. I can't taste a difference between any other types and we eat a TON of eggs, so I buy generic. But those farm eggs? Amazing

I have tried organic eggs but i find that the egg shells crumble really easily so I just buy regular store brand because I hate when the shell crumbles into the egg

Organic brown cage free. My mom came to visit when LO was born and bought regular eggs. They were there, so I made them. The yolks were a sad yellow and they just didn't taste as good. I mean, they were fine, they were eggs, but I really think the organic ones taste better on top of the other benefits.

ohmygosh I just realized something. About when we started buying farm eggs is when M starting refusing eggs. I wonder if she doesn't like the taste of farm eggs.

@IRunForFun: same here. free-range, organic. but free-range isn't always available, so then we get cage-free. but i'm pretty sure that just means they are in a large room together cramped in but not in cages.

@regberadaisy: interesting!! I wonder what the difference is...just what they eat? After reading all of these posts, I was thinking of looking up some farmers in my area to see if they sell eggs. At the Farmer's Market, a dozen eggs go for $3-$4. That's ridiculous.

@mediagirl: I think so, but there is a noticeable taste difference between farm fresh eggs and the Egglands we used to get. And it fluctuates from batch to batch.

We go to a local chicken farm who has free-run hormone free eggs for $3/dozen. I LOVE egg lady eggs, the yolks are almost orange
In the winter months when her hens slow down on their laying we get whatever is in Costco, but we always check the egg lad first.

We are lucky- our good friends have chickens that are free-run/organic fed, so we get our eggs from them. If we need to buy eggs at any point, we buy Cage-free organic eggs. They are definitely pricey, but we make up for that by getting free eggs otherwise! I used to buy Eggland's best (still great eggs, this would be my third choice.)

I was buying brown organic free-range eggs. Although lately I've noticed these weird little brown dots in the white when I crack it. It's FREAKING me out and I went back to free-range white eggs. I'm going to see if there is a difference.

@blackbird: Mmm farm eggs are so good! With regular grocery store eggs I usually have to put a tiny sprinkle of cheese or something on them to liven them up, but the farm fresh eggs we get in the spring/summer don't need anything!
We were going to get chickens this year but had too much else going on. Next year we're going to get our own and build them a chicken tractor coop. Our friends did this and are really happy with their fresh eggs, not to mention the entertainment they get from the chickens!
