We used to have custom blinds on all of our windows in the living room, dining room, kitchen and hall. We ended up getting new windows so took them down and put them in storage. We have muntins on our windows, and our blinds have a decorative fabric going down them, so we have been debating for six months if we should put them back on or not. You can very easily see inside our windows at night so we need to put something up.
What type of window treatments do you have in your main living area?

Right now, nothing. We have HUGE windows on our main level (open concept living/dining room) but they face the backyard. One neighbor can see in during the winter, after the leaves fall off the trees, but we don't really care that much. The house is MCM and it actually looks best with bare windows. We're probably going to get some solar shades for them, more to protect the piano and rugs from the sun than for privacy, but every time I think about buying them I get a quote and put it off a little longer...

We have white wood plantation shutters. They are great for privacy and also for helping keep the sun out and the house cool in the summer. I love them.

We have those Hunter Douglas silhouette blinds, and floor length curtains as well. Now that we have the curtains, I love the look...it's definitely kind of dramatic though. Here's a pic---this was in the process of hanging them, so excuse the mess.

Right now nothing! But shopping for curtains. Just waiting till we get both sets of French doors replaced.

@Bao: We have a lot of windows, too--5 huge windows in a half-octogaon shape, plus the french doors to the patio, so I needed 14 panels total. I waited a long time until I got a 40% of coupon for West Elm and then I sewed blackout lining to the back myself (we wanted blackout curtains).
The whole project was less than $275. Not bad for 108 inch curtains.

We have shear curtains on a tension rod hung on the inside frame of the windows and then thick curtains we close at night for privacy.

@HLK208: Yeah we have a nosy neighbor so although I love the look of the windows with nothing on them I think we better put something up, plus in the winter I like to feel cozy inside with them shut, whereas in the summer I don't mind them open because it's lighter for longer and we like the air flow.

We have 2" white faux wood blinds throughout the house and then curtains on the large sliding doors and LOs room. Eventually I want curtains in all of the living spaces.

@Bao: I totally understand. I waited foreverrrrrr and hemmed and hawed about window treatments--for literally almost a year. But our windows are poorly insulated and in winter it's FREEZING. And the curtains have really made a difference--both in summer and winter!

We have thick white faux wood blinds on white windows with muntins on the top half. I've never noticed them being too busy. Like HLK said all I really see is the blinds, I don't even notice the muntins behind them.

We have heavy fake wood blinds and I hate them. Eventually we'll replace them, when we rplace all the windows. We'll probably do sheer blinds with floor-length curtains.

Drapes in the living room and dining room. They have black out panels to keep the fabric color consistent when the sun shines in the room.
We have blinds in the family room, but will upgrade to plantation shutters hopefully soon. Our kitchen window is bare and will remain so, but we have tints to help with the heat that seeps in.

Our windows are tiny, so in order to make them appear larger, I hung wooden blinds from Home Depot that extend just past the frame and on top of that, curtain panels.

We have lined roman shades and sheer curtains on the window that faces the street. The one that faces the back yard just has curtains.

We have interior mount top-down bottom up cellular shades in white, sheers, and black-out curtains. It's a lot, but gives us plenty of options depending on how we are using the space.
