Was there one item that you discovered during infancy that you didn't know you needed or that you hadn't heard of before? Was something a lifesaver for you? or made something easier?

Nose frida was pretty key, as was a continuous white noise machine--we started with the sleep sheep but it stops every 45 minutes--so annoying!

iPad. We play white noise all night and have a spotify playlist of Disney songs.

Not
Directly for an infant, but I have tons of friends who don't know about the Medela sterilizer bags! A lifesaver to clean pump parts and other stuff fast.

Exercise ball. We already had for exercises at home but we bounced C on that for soooooooo many hours!

Continuous white noise machine.
Really good, absorbent burp cloths.
Manual pump (*so* much easier for quick pumps than the big electric).
Nursing tops.

The Rock N Play. I remember getting it for my shower thinking that I'd never use it but in a 3-floor townhouse that's teeny tiny it was the best for naps, next to bed, bringing ingredients bathroom while I showered. Used it daily until he could sit up in it.

A safe mirror in the crib. Holy crap was/is that an amazing purchase

The crib aquarium. It's a lifesaver when I need 10 more minutes to get ready in the morning.

Exercise ball (I used it during pregnancy)..but we've spent HOURS bouncing K to sleep on it. Practically her entire first two months.
That, and gripe water. Its not 'gear', but sure was a lifesaver (and I had no clue it existed until K was born).

We originally didn't register for a swing but added it in when some of my relatives complained that they wanted to buy us something "big." It ended up being a lifesaver for naps before she learned to sleep well in the crib.

@hilsy85: what did you find was the best one? is there one that stays on all night?
@rachiecakes: I didn't have one last time, but it's on my list time. I'm hoping it helps me, since last time DS wouldn't let me but him down.

Lots of camisole shirts to wear under shirts. So I could pull my shirt up and then pull the cami down. It also was great for helping with PP belly.

@junebugmama: yes the marpac dohm!

Love it!

Cloth diapers as burp cloths. We had a spitter and the fun baby burp cloths did not cut it.

@hilsy85: how convenient. Just added that puppy to my amazon wish list lol

A & A blankets. Yeah. Nothing compares to their multifunction ability.

A good swing (we ended up with the Fisher Price Snugabunny.) I was trying to minimize equipment and the amount of space it all took up, so I bought the Lion King bouncer/swing combo, and I HATED that thing. It barely moved (and didn't move at all if you didn't put it on a completely flat surface, start the swinging perfectly...and forget it if baby started moving around in the swing, it would stop.) The Snugabunny is amazing and saved my life for baby naps on fussy days.

I agree with Mrs. Polish w the cloth dispersed as burp cloths. They are super absorbent.
The other is the magic Merlin sleep suit. My son didn't like being swaddled and spent more time and energy trying to get out. Ever since we got the sleep suit, he's slept 7-9 hrs at night. He's only 6 wks.

Tights. It's the only way socks will stay on her feet. Plus it keeps her cozy in these cold winter months.

Ditto x4 on the exercise ball! That and the moby have been lifesavers for calming my colicky baby. We also have a white noise app that we hold right up to his ear when he is crying. It helps too!

Bulb snot sucker, couldn't have lived without it!
Also the Ergo and My Pal Scout (but that was at closer to 1 year old)

Continuous white noise machine. We have a Graco one that stays on for 12 hours a day. It's amazing ...

Exercise ball (bouncing while being held was the only thing that soothed my former colic monster ).
Runner-up goes to the rock'n'play. M slept in it for all nights & naps until something ridiculous like 5 months. Whatever. Saved our sanity.

@lovelyplum-because she's fascinated with herself! Lays there and looks at herself and has for months upon months. When she was little, it bought me an entire HOUR every morning to pump, have coffee, etc, while she squealed at herself. She still plays with it! I got it right after her 8 week check up when she couldn't stop staring at the one in the ped office. It was just one of thoseade life easier purchases

Yes to exercise ball and nose frida and swing.
My personal favorite, though, was flannel clothes for the changing pad. They are magically absorbent and so useful, still using them 9 months in! My friend gave me a bunch before I gave birth, and I love them so much I went out and bought 2 more packs a week after LO was born!

I second everyone who said Nose Freida! I thought the very idea was disgusting but we could not have lived without it. It is a marvel!
