What was the best thing you didn't know you needed for an infant?

All of the above (especially the nose frida)! Also, I thought the boppy was the gold standard in bf pillows but I ended up preferring the My Breast Friend.

I don't think the itzbeen timer thing was mentioned -- it was awesome and kept me on track when I was sleep deprived and couldn't remember when I last fed or changed him, or for how long he'd been sleeping. Only word of warning would be to not get obsessed with it like I did (supply issues meant he wanted to eat every 40 mins for daysssss and I would go crazy looking at the thing).

I thought of a couple more over the long weekend (we had a snow day) at home:
an extra toothbrush to keep in another bathroom (DD has her own bathroom and I often want to brush my teeth when I am up early with her, but I don't want to disturb my husband my going back into our bathroom...)
Travel packs of wipes (I keep them *every where* and use them all the time)
a Kindle! I spent so much time reading while I was home at mat leave...

If I end up with another winter baby, I am totally getting one of those fleece sweatshirt things that goes over the Ergo to keep the baby warm. I always tucked a blanket around DD, but that's a pain.

@Foodnerd81: Exercise ball for sure! That was the lifesaver for our very colicky baby!

My Brest Friend pillow -- the Boppy was useless at first
Wubbanub pacifier -- keeps the paci from disappearing and she loves the kitty, cuddles and pets it
Keekaroo Peanut changing pad -- SO easy to clean! We throw down a prefold or flannel receiving blanket under her because it can feel a bit chilly in the winter, but no struggling with changing a cover when she decides to wait for that 3-second space between the old and new diaper to let loose!

Gerbe trifold cloth diapers as burp rags. They are ugly but they work better than ANY burp rag I bought. She was a strong spitter so they were necessary!
