No one ever talks about this but I just got the insurance statements from the procedure - all together before insurance, it came to $13k. 
That's only $1k less than my vaginal births with an epidural and 2 night stay at the hospital! How insane. I'll probably have to meet my $1k deductible.

I don't remember the pre insurance amount but I had to pay $3200 out of pocket for mine in October, we have a high deductible plan. It was brutal....

I paid hardly anything for my d&c, but I wasn't put under and it was in dr's office. I just paid $1600 for my d&e though. Sucks.

In case it is of any help to other mamas facing the same thing: Most clinics that offer abortions also treat miscarriages. The full OOP cost is typically between $300-$600 and twilight sedation is usually available.
It can be difficult or awkward to be at an appointment with many other women terminating unwanted pregnancies when you've just lost a desired pregnancy...but it might leave you with more money in your pocket for the next pregnancy and baby.

@HLK208: I never found out what the total charges to my insurance were, but I had to pay $2000 up front on the day of my d&c, and I got more bills totaling about $900 in the couple of months afterwards. I was like, why don't you just stick a needle in my arm and take it in fucking blood. I'm still pissed off about it.

I was lucky to pay $0 for mine. However, two days later I ended up the er and needed another d&c (for "retained product"), that was fun. It was an out of network hospital and for a one night stay + the surgery it cost $10k and I was expected to pay $3k. Wth! I spent an entire year fighting that bill and while I was grateful to win in the end, it made me emotionally feel as if this was the miscarriage that would never end. Insurance, ugh.

@yerpie110: I'm glad you won but I'm sorry you even had to fight it. I've been so emotional after the D&C (besides what happened - I think it's because of the change in hormones). And even the littlest thing makes me upset so dealing with the bills from this is like the cherry on top of a bad dream!

@HLK208: it feels like such a gut punch to deal with the follow up. still, I was grateful to get the procedure and have it be over with the next day. I think waiting it out with a mm/c would send a lot of people into a tailspin.
the month afterwards, before I got my real period, was a mess. I hope yours comes soon and wipes the slate a little bit emotionally for you. -

My bill came out to 20K, plus an additional 15K for my ER visit the night before.
Luckily, I only had to cover a small portion of it, but I couldn't believe the cost.

I got my bill from my D&C in January it was $16,000(!!!!). They hadn't billed my insurance and billed me as self pay.

OMG. That is incredible and terrible and why am I not even surprised.
Any woman that has to go through that should not have to then endure paying for it as if she had a live birth. So terrible. I hate our health care system so much.@lilyofthewest: that is really interesting and really good to know. Thank you for sharing.

That's about what mine cost. My deductible was $2,000 and then the anaesthesiologist didn't take my insurance (not sure how I was supposed to do anything about that, I was careful to go to a clinic that took my insurance) and I got a bill from them for $1,200. I called their billing number, and ended up paying half.
I was so mad.
