I worked as a management consultant... I like to help people, so it was a pretty good fit for me.

I was an HR intern at a big telecom company.

My first job was awesome. I worked at a community garden, doing a little bit of everything. Gardening, mostly, but also planning & executing children's and community programs.

I was a school social worker my first year out of grad school (I did grad school full time immediately after undergrad). It was alright but a bit boring....hence moving to London the following year for a way more exciting social work job!

I was in the AmeriCorps program working in emergency services with the Red Cross ... barely any $$ but a great experience

School as in college/university? I was a journalist on our local evening paper. Loved it, but was pretty green and had to learn fast.

PR for a non-profit. Had my own office, too. I miss that. (the office)

Dog walker. I graduated in 1993 in the midst of a recession. I volunteered in a lab while making pennies as a dog walker so that I could get a decent biotech job in the Bay Area. I paid my dues, fo' sho'.

First thing I did was intern at a magazine. My first real, full-time job was in book publishing, but I didn't like it and went back to journalism within a year.

i was an "account executive" to a web development company.

I worked at Starbucks my senior year of college and kept working there for a year after (yay graduating into a recession! Not.). It was a great comapny to work for but i quickly realized I needed something that paid better and my first "real" job was as an event coordinator at a non-profit performance arts venue.

I went straight to law school so my first job was actually a contract attorney position with Bloomberg's company for a couple months then attorney!

I was a rape crisis counselor and I helped document evidence for the police department for rape kits. It lasted all of a year because it was so stressful.

I worked at a specialty running store (the kind where we videotape you running on a treadmill and analyze your gait to pick the right shoe). It was alright, def got me hooked on running even more than I already was!

Golf course worker making minimum wage. The worst. We just moved to a small town after graduation for DH job and I couldn't find anything. Took a year and a few horrible jobs but finally landed an account executive role in my field

Hostess at a steakhouse for a year until I got a graphic design job at the local paper. Gotta love small town living.

Emergency room nurse in an inner city ER. Loved it, but being a Navy nurse is way more rewarding.

@Orvis18: Child Protection is what I did when I moved to London! I think the UK is much more supportive in terms of services provided to families so it wasn't nonstop crises all the time, which is good because removing kids from their parents was the most gut wrenching thing ever. Regardless, it was still a good job and I miss it at times.

I was an assistant scientist at a pharmaceutical company. I did an few internships there during college. It definitely helped me get my foot in the door.

I was working at subway when I graduated high school, then did a ft nanny gig on NY, moved home and got a new nanny job, then worked in an elementary school and worked in retail as a manager up until I got pregnant. Haven't worked since!

I worked a bunch of jobs while in school, but my first job after graduating was working in the domestic violence division of a DA's office.
