Not what was your first sign that labor is about to happen, but at what moment--what was happening to your body--that made you realize "this isn't a drill, this is really happening!?" Was it water breaking? A painful contraction? I feel like I keep having moments where I'm like "is this it?" but I assume I will really KNOW when it is (says the impatiently waiting 40w5d pregnant lady :). Any stories much appreciated!

I had a contraction and thought nothing of it but then once I realized they went from 12 to 3 minutes apart in an hour and were getting more painful I knew it was it.

I had been having consistent contractions starting Monday night all through the day Tuesday & I called my MW late Tuesday night to let her know & we called labor the next morning around 6 a.m.

Contractions 5 minutes apart. I kept telling myself it was just a cramp, but if it happens again then maybe its something. That went on for a few hours and when they started to be really noticeable and 5 minutes apart there was no denying it any longer! I just didn’t want to be the pregnant lady who thought she was in labor but was sent home. LOL

I was induced, but it didn't really hit me that I was about to have a baby until the first real contraction hit. OUCH.

Contractions were coming 3-4 minutes apart and I kept telling my husband I was sure they'd stop any minute...but a few minutes later I started hitting the wall with my fists and screaming like I was dying, lol.

I was induced too, but my pre term labor was stopped at 28ish weeks. I knew for sure it was labor when I was timing them in the bathtub and they were come relentlessly less than 3 minutes apart.

@Bao: Wowsa, that is crazy!! Did you go to the hospital right away at that point?
@emg86: were they that close right away? or were you having sporadic contractions earlier?

When my water broke. I felt a *pop* and then a small gush. There was no mistaking it for pee!

@maybebaby: yes! I was at a 5 when I got there so I'm glad we went right away.

@Bao: Wow, that is wild! Our hospital is 15 minutes away, so luckily if it got to that point I feel safe knowing we could get there quickly. Hope yours was nearby and you didn't have to spend too long in the car!

With my first, my water broke; it was just a little pop and then a slow leak, but I knew that was it!
With my second, I started noticing contractions about 2 minutes apart. I just just decided that if they didn't go away within 5 hours I was in labor. By the time my 5 hour limit rolled around, I knew we were good to go.

My water broke! It was unmistakeable, it just started pouring out of me after a pop and splashed all over the bathroom floor lol. Followed by very painful and regular contractions, right away.

@maybebaby: I had a lot of braxton hicks and contractions throughout the last few weeks of pregnancy. The day before I went into labor I had some contractions that were timeable but nothing stuck around. I mostly walked and slept through my early labor. By the time I woke up with contractions 3-4 minutes apart I was at 5cm.

Contractions were 4-5 mins apart and very consistent. I was able to predict when the next one was coming.

Water breaking on the toilet after a pop and small gush. I can't even say that was it. I actually got back into bed and thought if it was really my water breaking, contractions would come soon after. Felling that first contraction a few minutes later, I knew it was it and not just a cramp!

My water broke! I knew I hadn't peed myself because I had just woken up for my middle of the night bathroom break.

So surprised at all the water breaking!! I found a tiny chunk of blood on the tissue when I wiped after going to the bathroom once. Since I hadn't seen ANY spotting or anything the entire pregnancy I knew it had to mean something. I had been having braxton hicks every night for weeks, but they were so bad I couldn't sleep. At 5am we started to time them, and by 7 they were so painful I could not walk or talk through them. So we headed to my OBGYN's which opened at 8:30, and when I was checked I was 2.5 cm!

A contraction woke me up. I had three more 10 minutes apart, then a few 7 minutes apart, then they were 5 minutes apart and definitely lasting at least a minute each time. It didn't take long to realize it was go time.

When my contractions kicked in! My water broke 2 hours before I felt any contractions, and I was unconvinced that labor was going to start soon.

For DD I began having real contractions at 5p that were 2-4 mins apart. When DH got home, he wanted to know if it was real or not, so I showed him my log. Then I realized when I called LD that this was real and that they wanted me there right away.

Contractions were the first sign but unconvincing, though they did wake me up. They were somewhat far apart but I knew they were different then the BH ones. But despite knowing they were different I still had an internal battle of no this is all in your head vs maybe you should start thinking of heading over to the hospital.
I ended up having the rest of the signs that day but once my water broke was when I really felt like OK you're not going to somehow be pregnant forever, time to go to the hospital, you're in labor.

Realizing that my water had broken! It was a slow gush and it took me a few minutes to come out of denial lol.

That would be...the doc breaking my water w/a knitting needle thing. Ha! I would have liked to go into labor naturally, but it didn't happen.

I had lots of cramping and thought it was braxton hicks, when they didnt go away after 12 hours I told DH we needed to go to the hospital LOL
