Our LO is only 3.5 months old, so obviously no words yet, but I can't wait to hear that first word What was your LO's first word?

I don't count what she says now as her first word because she doesn't know what she's babbling about. But she goes around the house saying "Ma ma" and "Da da" all the time. But if you say it after her, she stops saying it and looks at you like you're crazy.

'backup', which I say to my dogs 100 times a day. This was at about 10 months.

DD's first sign was "snow," and her first spoken word was "dog."
DS is only 8 months, but his first sign was "all done."

All done at 10 months... He was mimicking at 9 months, we hung out with his 2 year old cousins for a week and he wanted to be just like them. He said it a month later on his own at dinner.

@Bao: I'm pretty sure a couple of HB'ers have submitted guest blogs on signing, if you're looking for inspiration! I know Mrs. Pen did under her old screen name and before that Oh!Apostrophe (Miss Tiramisu on WB) wrote up a post on signing, too.

Mama. She said it over and over and over and over again. And I just happened to have surgery so I couldn't hold her

Not really a word but it was uh oh. She said it so purposefully that I count it as her first word. Something would drop on the floor and she would say uh oh!

My son now babbles and says mamamamamam and emma all the time, but he's only 7 months so it doesn't count!
