@sarah.clarisse: Sorry to take awhile to respond. I had to go into the doctor. Mine had blistered and was oozing. They gave me a triamcinalone cream and removed the strips. It fixed it all within a few days. I hope yours has gotten better!

Right - happened quick, within a day. Healthy baby, healthy mom

Wrong - breech baby. Csection recovery.

    Right:
    -healthy baby, healthy mum
-amazing, supportive, patient midwife - I'm sure she is the only reason I barely tore and didn't end up with a csection
-discharged within 16 hours of delivery
    -husband was super supportive
-immediate skin to skin and breastfeeding
    -easy recovery

    Wrong:
-water broke and contractions didn't start, I was GBS+ so I had to be induced
-should have got an epidural sooner, the contractions with the oxytocin was terrible and I didn't progress much until I got the epidural
-pushing for 2+ hours was exhausting, midwife threatened to use the vacuum
-DH didn't get to cut the umbilical cord (DH didn't mind) because the cord was around our soon's neck
-I was hoping to go home 4 hours after birth but my midwife suggested I stay overnight since I didn't deliver our soon until 7pm (still wish we went home late, I hated staying in the hospital overnight)
-ongoing issues with thrush (going on 5 months now!!!) probably from the antibiotics I received in labour

    Right:
Went into labor on my own.
    Had an effective epidural.
    Baby and mama were healthy!

    Wrong:
Maybe I'm seeing this through rose colored glasses, but I don't see anything wrong with my L&D. Breastfeeding, however, was an entirely different story.

Bumping this old thread because it's a helpful thread to see the good and the bad.

As I read through these I realize that I really didn't have any expectations. I had scheduled c sections resulting in healthy babies and healthy mama. So to me everything went right.

My only negative is DS1 lost too much weight early on and I freaked. DS2 had jaundice and I barely got to hold him because he needed to be under the lights. But that's it. And in the grand scheme of things, I think it's pretty minor.

Right: Mom and baby were healthy

Wrong: I had high blood pressure at 41 weeks leading to induction, wasn't dilating, got an epidural (I'd wanted to go natural but 8 hours into an induction they thought would take 24-36 hours I was over it), finally dilated but then baby got stuck on my pelvis and my water broke but there was meconium in it, her heart rate went crazy, I spiked a fever and they were worried about infection, and I ended up with an emergency c section and then my c section incision opened up at 1 week pp and that was a huge gross deal.

Despite all of that... all that really matters is that me and baby were fine.

    Right:
    - I progressed very quickly once things got going. Went from 3-10 in a couple hours.
    - my husband was amazing!
    - my dr stayed with me for almost the entire 4.5 hrs that I was pushing. She was fantastic and supportive and ultimately told me yes I could do it when I was begging for a c-section.
    - no tears or episiotomy despite a vacuum delivery!
    - the new anesthesiologist named Steve gave me the hook up on all the meds after my failing epidural
    - ultimately we were all healthy, which is obviously the best thing!

    Basically everything else went wrong:
    - blood pressure was elevating when I was upright so I couldn't walk around
    - dr tried to do a Foley catheter and couldn't get it placed properly so it was an hour of her digging around in there without any result
    - there was an emergency on the floor so they had to shut off the pitocin once it was finally up as high as it would go. I had to start over at the lowest level and work my way back up again.
    - my dr let me eat but I ended up throwing it all up because I started dilating fast and furious as soon as I ate and my body freaked out
    - my epidural kept failing (they kept giving me more and it'd fade out in 30 min)
    - I pushed for 4.5 hrs and LO was majorly stuck
    - I yelled at everyone, like a lot
    - once Baby A was out, Baby B was in distress and was an emergency C, so DH was kicked out of the room. So basically the worst happened - one vaginal delivery and one c-section
    - my giant smushed together double placenta (apparently can become a thing with twins) was very difficult for my dr to get out, but I guess at least it was being surgically removed at this point and I didn't have to deliver it. It probably weighed more than each of my little ones!
    - this was post L&D, but still related - but I was by myself for a couple hours after delivery because they didn't have enough nurses on staff to have the babies with me in recovery. DH was with the babies but I was really disappointed I wasn't able to nurse for several hours after. When I did finally get to hold my babies, I was interrupted by medical staff who had to take me for X-rays to check to make sure there was no surgical equipment left inside which is apparently hospital procedure when it's that sort of last minute emergency. Unfortunately I was very drugged up (since my epidural failed I was given a cocktail of narcotics during my c-section) and couldn't tell them that it could wait until later. That's actually what I'm most upset about 15 months later!

    Right--
    - great support from sister, DH, nurses
    - neither of our safety was compromised
    - my room was amazing and had a place for DH to sleep (even my post partum room had a bed for him)
    -vaginal delivery

    Not so great
    - had a pretty unnecessary induction due to "high" PB
    - labored for 32 hours and pushed for 3 hours
    - epidural kept wearing off/too weak
    - they kept cranking me full of pitocin because the OB broke my water way too early and there was a time crunch
    - pain was so bad, I started hallucinating...I honestly didn't know pain like that existed
    - not eating for two days but I was in so much pain, I didn't care but just weak
-the OB said they needed to "partially resuscitate" him which was TERRIFYING but I guess that just means they had to use the bulb syringe
    - I don't know how many stitches I had buy I tore quite a bit
-was so swollen and sore, I couldn't walk for a few days and now, 7 weeks pp, my back pain is just starting to go away
    -needed the vacuum
    - I was so out of it, I didn't get a chance to latch him on for several hours
-he lost a lot of weight by his first appointment

    Totally worth it

    Right:
    - I had two healthy babies
    - Both deliveries were fast (about 1.5h of very active labor with #1 and 20min with #2 (from 4-10cm in <20min))
    - Both were unmedicated
    - Especially after my second delivery is was practically jogging through the hospital by the next day

    Wrong:
    - My firstborn wasn't able to latch in L&D and they made me pump as of day2 which caused massive oversupply issues
    - I had some tearing with #1 because he had his hand infront of his face
    - ETA: Oh I did have meconium with both of them but it was never even an issue

Other than that there wasn't much I'd change. I'm really thankful for the uncomplicated births I've had.
