I probably shouldn't be watching Law & Order: SVU late at night.... this last episode is freaking me out.
What would your response be if you found out that your SO was a sperm donor to 100 children? Would you want to meet any of your donor step-children? Would you ever want your LO to meet his or her half-siblings?

Ha ha! I would be mad that he didn't tell me before we got married. All secrets should be divulged before you tie the knot! I also would not be happy about him having 100 children out there.

That kind of thing should not be kept from your SO. If it did occur, I'd spend a lot of time looking at children around me trying to figure out if they were my husband's or not. That is kind of scary. I don't think it would be appropriate to intrude on those children's lives though as the parents didn't choose that sperm donor to have him as a part of their lives.

I'd like to be able to say I would be happy he was able to provide happiness and joy to so many families but in reality I think I would be pretty mad. I would be more mad if I found out it happened after we were together and it was something he actively hid from me as opposed to something he did before we met.
There was a show once that followed people from different sides of this issue. A single mother who's children came via sperm donation and wanted to meet the donor. A donor (actually the donor for the single mom mentioned before) getting married and telling his fiance about the whole thing. And a young college girl who's parents were unable to conceive on their own and was torn between wanting to not hurt her dad by seeking more information but also wanting to understand where she "came from". It was a fascinating, heartbreaking show.

I would not be happy about that. I wouldn't want to meet them, since he obviously didn't want a relationship with them to begin with.

I watched that episode too! It was interesting.
I'd be much more upset that he hadn't mentioned it before now, rather than the fact that he was a donor. I think that donating sperm and eggs is very commendable and I don't think it would bother me. It takes a lot more than genetic material to make a family. I would never view them as "his" children. Same as if I donate eggs at some point. I'd love to do that and give another couple the ability to have a child, but I would never view that child as "mine".

@mrbee: That was a crazy episode!! I watched it, too.
I'd be giving the side-eye to my husband if I found out about this, especially in the way the wife did in the SVU episode. I'd have some major trust issues!
If he was upfront about it with me, from the start of our relationship, then I'd be OK with it.

Lol! I'd find it disturbing! But if for some reason he was in dire need of some cash before we met and he didn't actually know IF they used his sperm, then I'd get over it.
BUT I'd be extremely paranoid whenever we're out and see a kid that even slightly resembles him!

We considered egg donation so it wouldn't bother me if he did this. Like EEH, I would be happy he helped out a family have a chld. It would be awkward to meet his kids. I don't want know about his kids, though. Although, I would be curious if any of them enjoyed drawing like my DH. Maybe later in life, I would like to FB stalk them to see how they are doing. Haha!

Eek! I would want a list of those children, so that our daughter didn't accidentally end up dating one of her half-siblings when she got older. That would be scary!!

It wouldn't bother me, unless he lied about it and it came out later, and then I would be mad about the lie.
I would never look for any of the kids - they have parents, and those parents are not us. I wouldn't be down with any of the kids wanting to meet him, to be honest, I would hope they had fathers of their own.
