For me, I totally regret purchasing a pack n play. We hardly hardly ever used it. It just sits in the corner of our room filled with stuffed animals. A close friend of mine told me not to buy it but I read so many stories online of women who absolutely loved it. So I bought one anyway. And now I totally regret it. Takes up so much space and it's never used!
What's one baby/toddler item that you totally regret purchasing?

@banana: wow, that is the first time I've heard that someone regretted buying a pack 'n play! Do you live in a one-story home? We are planning on keeping ours downstairs since we do most of our living down there and let the baby sleep in it when we're down there, as well. We will have a crib upstairs for her to sleep in at nighttime.

I rarely use my pack n play either, but it was necessary for the 2 times I've used it so far.
@Mrbee: I also have baby shoes that were never worn. Luckily they were either gifts or hand me downs so I didn't spend any money on them.
For me it would be the bumbo. I think it's a nice thing to have... but my LO's legs are so chubby she was only able to sit in it a couple of times, and even then we had trouble getting her in and out.

I LOVE and keep using both my PnPs -- one in the bedroom (where he slept for his first 6 months) and one in the kitchen. I use both to corral him for short periods when I need to do something like cook or go to the bathroom!
They are not a big investment but we have every kind of teether on the planet and he chewed on them a combined total of 30 seconds. He just never really understood that whole concept!
Also, we have more blankets than we need, although they're all really lovely!

@mediagirl: I guess it depends on the LO cause my LO hated napping in the pack in play! The second I put him in it, he would scream. And he was a pretty mellow baby/toddler. Most women love the pack n play but I just found it unnecessary. The only times I used it were when I had to put my baby in there to go use the restroom. But we ended up buying a baby fence and used that instead.
@tequiero21: You might actually end up liking the pack n play (especially with twins?) so no need to return it just yet. 
For us, we didn't need the pack n play but some moms swear by it.

The First Years Breastflow bottles. I was scared of nipple confusion and had a couple friends recommend these bottles, but I absolutely hated them. Such a pain to use if your LO doesn't have a good latch and a pain to clean because of the double nipple design. In retrospect, I would buy one bottle from a couple different manufacturers and then buy more of my favorite rather than getting a bunch of one brand to start.

As far as the pack n plays, I LOVE the tot block graco one. It's about 3'x3' and perfect for playing in
I feel like traditional ones are small.

I must totally be in the minority cause my LO also didn't like his Sophie the Giraffe teether. I know, I know... everyone LOVES sophie the girafee. But he chewed on it maybe a few times and wasn't that interested. Which was nice because we spent like $20 on it. It's a cute toy though.

@banana: we only have a one-story home, so i don't think we will use our pack n play at home at all! however, we got it because we have a beach house, and we will need something for the baby to sleep in when we go out there!

I regret not doing more research on strollers before buying my Graco one. It's a travel system, which I needed and love, but it takes up a LOT of room.

@banana: my girl is not impressed with Sophie either! At 5 months she preferred the $4 key-shaped teethers we bought from Target. Go figure!
I must admit that she hates her swing. Every mom I know swears they can't live without it but my lo won't last more than 15 mins in there! I guess I regret that purchase since she never uses it. Also infant winter jackets are a waste of money. I bought so many cute ones, vests and snowsuits and I still cant get her to wear them. Also its impossible to put it on her then put her in the carseat, so they'll just get put away unworn now!

I know alot of moms who say they regret purchasing the swing too. My LO loved it so I'm glad we bought one. But lots of my mommy friends said they could've done without one.

I think the swing is one of those things where you just can't predict if the babe will like it or not. Mine didn't really, but I am hoping maybe next time around?

This purchase was a poor pregnancy purchase - the prenatal heart listener. Couldn't hear anything which only increases worry. Silly, just silly.

oh and @banana, our LO is 4 months and I'm practically forcing him to love Sophie, he isn't so interested but I keep giving it too him - in hopes it will be worth the $20

@banana and andrea: We have a 20 month old and she didn't like Sophie (well, like for 10 minutes one day) or the pack n play. Coincidence? I don't think so!

@theknest: That's so funny cause I was trying to do the same thing. Everytime he'd grab for a toy, I'd shove Sophie in his hand to make him like it. LOL. But he'd just throw it to the side and grab something else. I'm hoping our second baby will like it and make the 20 bucks worth it!
@mrs.jacks: I guess that makes 3 of us who had LOs who didn't like Sophie or the pack n play. I feel like we're in the minority though.

@tequiero21: I use my pack and play when I need to get stuff done and my LO is roaming around. She sits quietly in it and plays. We didn't have one during the non-mobile months.

Like Chopsuey, I found a renewed interest in the PNP when I needed to do the dishes and needed to 'lock up' the babe next to me. It's great for the kitchen when I don't want her running around underfoot. There was a few months when it was going to the wayside collecting dust. Don't give up...you'll use it again when LO is in the cruiser mode. Just give her soft toys and don't let her climb out of it. Our LO likes to play Peek a Boo on it and even push it around the living room like a huge walker. Not what it was intended for but fun, nevertheless.
Oh and to answer your question, I wish I wouldn't have embarked on the 'ideal sippee cup' search. Wish I would have just stayed with #3 with the flip straw. I must have 10 now, including the presents we have gotten.

Hmmm...bassinet vs pack n play? That's a toughie.
I ended up using our bassinet a lot in the beginning and hardly ever used the pack n play so I would vote for bassinet. I ended up borrowing a really soft and cushy bassinet from a friend and my LO slept well in it (it was small and cozy and I guess he felt comfortable in it).
A lot of moms used the pack n play changing station as their bassinett for the first few months and then ended up using the pack n play as a portable crib so they loved it and got good use out of it. For me, I'd rather have invested my money in a nice cushy bassinet or co-sleeper since my LO hated the pack n play. For baby #2, I think I'm going to buy a co-sleeper instead of using a basinett.

I thought of one good use for the pack n play. At an old nanny job, we used it as a ball pit for the baby. He loved it! So if all else fails, you have a fun toy.
A co-sleeper is a good idea!

I read somewhere that the sophie giraffe can be a choking hazard due to the legs I think... I'm not sure exactly why but definitely look it up if your baby uses it

I am another in the camp of "regrets pack n play." Handy as a changing station for the first few months, but that's all. Baby Y loves Sophie, though!
My other regret is the Baby Bjorn bouncer. He never liked it, and it was expensive!
