We just switched to a new cable company and cut back our services so we cut our bill to $90 (from $160). We were supposed to lose the DVR and digital cable but I just couldn't do it. It would have saved another $15 a month but I'm on summer vacation (teacher here) and I just don't want to give up the freedom to go out and prepare for baby whenever and not worry about missing shows. Maybe in the fall I'll be able to cut ties with DVR. Probably not though cause then I'll be on maternity leave the end of October and my favorite shows come on WAAAAY to late for me to stay up. In a nutshell I AM WHAT IS STOPPING US! Ugh!

Football
And we just started a year long contract with the cable company, lol

Nothing. We don't have cable or satellite! Instead we have an excellent internet package ($50/month gives us 300g bandwidth and amazing speeds) that let's us download video games and watch Netflix.

@ladybee: You will need the DVR even more once baby comes. Cause it will wake up just as you are getting to a good part in the show. So you need pause and play!

HBO and AMC mostly.
Also judge Judy, Maury, BBC America, etc. I love tv!

I guess b/c we love our DVR! It's just so easy to schedule shows to record and then watch them whenever we want. Which I guess we could do with hulu.

I don't know what's holding us back, actually. Our bill isn't ridiculous, but we pay for the classic service just to have one additional channel that isn't available on basic. I'm thinking about switching to Netflix.

Everything! When the power goes out I almost go insane. I hate to be so addicted but I am.

We just signed a 2 year contract. Prior to that, we never had TV - only Netflix. Hubby gets his sports fix via the ESPN app on his iPad.

We've been seriously considering eliminating/reducing cable, but I haven't been able to pull the trigger yet. Now that it's summer and very few shows are on, we mostly have been watching Netfilx. And when we do watch regular tv shows, we can see the majority on Hulu Plus. We do have a tivo and a 2 year tivo contract, so I was thinking that maybe we should reduce the cable to the minimum instead of eliminate it. But there's a few things we wouldn't be able to get (like HGTV) and I haven't been able to decide either way.

Nothing! We did it last year. The only channel I miss is National Geographic!

We don't get good antenna coverage....we tried! Too far out of the metro area and too many tall tall trees in our neighborhood.
But we've just had the super limited plan for years...just the few major network channels. But our tv picks up HD for those channels. If it wasn't HD, I'd be less willing to pay for it!

I don't watch much t.v., but I love to be able to plop down and watch some trash t.v. or cooking shows . . . not to mention random scores like Clueless and Legally Blonde!

We just recently got rid of our cable. It was definitely an adjustment at first, but we watch a lot of Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime Instant Streaming now. We had Netflix too, but cancelled that because we could get just about everything from Hulu and Amazon. I definitely miss some of the stuff that we can't stream (E! and bravo...real high quality stuff ), but it's not worth it to pay the $150 a month for a few channels that we can't get.

Nothing- we cancelled ours last year! We have Netflix streaming and most other shows we can watch online. DH keeps up with his baseball online too.

sports for hubby and obviously my mindless tv: e news, bill and giuliana, anything kardashians. but, we finally pulled the plug (literally) and got rid of it after the nba finals. i never thought the day would come however because dh was such a tv addict when we first met. he's weaned a lot over the years and after we got married, life just got so busy we never were able to commit regularly to watching certain shows and just vegging on the couch.
i think in general life just got SO. BUSY. i can't imagine how much crazier it would be with a baby.

What's keeping me from cancelling our cable?
Bones, Warehouse 13, Doctor Who, Castle, Revenge, Homeland, Arrow, Nashville, Vampire Diaries, The League, The Walking Dead, Burn Notice, Downton Abbey, The Lying Game, Justified, Continuum, Lost Girl, Archer, Property Brothers, Love It or List It, Psych, Game of Thrones, Army Wives, Defiance, Orphan Black, Mistresses, Rookie Blue, Teen Wolf, Falling Skies, Luther, Big Bang Theory.
ETA: Forgot to mention the Celtics and Patriots - Hubs faves.

I don't want to cancel- I love my DVR!
@Adira: I just started season 1 of Army Wives!

The DVR. I was thinking about this the other day. I would love to cut our bill, but with our schedules we absolutely never watch shows when they run. I don't know how we would manage without a DVR.

We don't even watch TV that much, so I don't know! I guess soccer for my husband and "Girls" for me. That's probably it.

@MsLipGloss: Clueless was on last night! I totally watched it.
In general we just really like TV. It costs a bit but before kids it was a way for us to not spend even more money than the cost of cable on going out. Now that LO is here it serves as a main way for us to spend a little time together after she has gone to bed. We can be home with her and watch a show at our convenience (DVR 4EVA) before going to bed ourselves.
Also the sports. DH already watches a lot of his international football matches online but during championships there are often multiple games on at once - different channels AND online so he will record them on TV, watch the one online live and then go back and watch the recorded matches in 2x fastforward. He is dedicated haha!

@autumnlove: I hope you enjoy it! I love Army Wives, although this season was quite a change because they got rid of some characters and introduced some new ones, so I wasn't thrilled about that. But I still can't stop watching!

Ours is automatically included in our HOA fees, so opting out isn't really an option

we barely watch tv. maybe turned it on once in the past month. i guess just knowing we're able to watch something if we want to? we really should cancel it.
