I love it when I get out-of-the-blue compliments. Recently, I've been trying to give them out more because I think they can be a bright spot in someone's day, and it's just really nice to do!
So, share the best compliment you've ever been given.

How about the strangest? A woman once told me I had the most beautiful neck! hahaha

One of my coworkers said I was channeling Audrey Hepburn one day (I was wearing skinny ankle pants and a black sweater. I was pregnant, so I took it for a win!
ETA: I don't think it was the best compliment I've ever gotten, but it was memorable!

One time a new friend said our apartment was really "homey." I liked that a lot, because I really try to make our apartment nice, but comfy cozy
Oh, and one of my FB friends back in the US said that I was a good hostess (as in parties) from some pic she saw. I guess I like when people compare me to Martha Stewart or something

This wasn't the best compliment I ever got, but it's the one that most recently warmed my heart: my husband was texting with his best friend and I saw that he had been talking about me being in the hospital for pre-term labor and bleeding and he said, "But you know [insert my name], she's handling this all beautifully. I'm a lucky man." It was so sweet I almost felt bad for snooping on his phone.

Someone once told me that I'm a classic beauty, like Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly. That just made my day!

Someone once wrote about me in an anonymous peer review at work that "Shootingstar is a ray of sunshine in this artificially lit office". I thought that was awesome :).

We took LO out to a restaurant when she was a week old and the waitress asked if I was babysitting because there was no way I just had a baby that little. We left her a big tip!

I like to meet celebrities, usually at horror conventions. I've had a few tell me i'm beautiful/hot. Totally vain but confidence boosting all the same

Someone recently told me I have a great spirit (it's hard to understand not knowing the person that said this and the context haha), I was really encouraged by that!

one lady at work makes my day almost weekly with the sweetest compliments. she says things like how i'm such a joy, how i am a pleasure to be around, how i make everyone feel so comfortable... she is an older lady with children my age. and i once overheard her and another coworker talking about how i would be a great boss and leader. they didn't know i was in the office yet and i just thought that was incredible because i've only been here for 1.5 years and she's a veteran of the company. it made me feel great!

Wow, the timing of this thread is amazing! This morning I got my best compliment ever - and (or, because!) it was from LO.
As I put her into the car this morning to go to work/school, she sighed and took my hand and said "Oh mama; you're so beautiful". Day, week, month, year = made.

I love all these!
I think one of the best ones I've received is about my confidence. I was getting ready to interview for a new job and my current employer (who knew I was interviewing) said, "You're going in with a leg up based on your confidence alone. You always appear to own the situation and that's extremely valuable." I loved that and didn't even realize it at the time about myself!

Being told by my mom (the best mom ever) that she thinks I'm a great mom pretty much boosted my confidence for life.

I was recently told, out of the blue, by a close (male) friend that he would rather eat at my house than in any restaurant. Yay cooking skills! (My husband says this all the time, but I think it's just because he doesn't want to go out.)
pomelo / 5524 posts
I don't remember the best, but I've been getting a lot of "your arms look great!" Comments. It makes those times when I have to carry my tired 30 pound LO back a mile with his car that he doesn't want to ride on any longer totally worth it!

These are so great!
One of the most memorable ones for me is that someone said they love our fun family so much and wants to create one like ours. That she believes the woman sets the tone in so many ways and that I'm doing a great job. That compliment pretty much made my year. Another one was when someone said Noelle is obviously thriving from so much love.

@autumnlove: haha, does that mean there are bad ones that you do remember?

My two year old saw one of my maternity photos and is convinced I am a princess, it made my day and my 5 year old tells me every day that I'm the best mom ever but from strangers, my favorite is that people are always complimenting dh and I on how amazing and well behaved our children are!

A couple of days ago my husband told me I'm generous and put others first. I thought that was so nice to hear, especially after hearing my stepmom tell me I'm a selfish person my entire childhood.

Someone once told me that I looked like Marion Cotillard. I don't believe it but it was super nice and I'll never forget it.

My stepdaughter wrote me a letter for mother's day and she said "you always listen and you always care"
If every child in my life feels like I listen and care, I am set!

Not THE best but I was recently assigned to a project at work and several people told me how happy they were to have me on this project because of my technical skills. That made me feel good.

It was pretty sweet when some hot, young guy called me a MILF.
Should I be ashamed that I was flattered?

@Rainbow Sprinkles: lol, no. Take it!!
My step-dad, who I considered my dad, passed away suddenly a couple of years ago. One of his friends told me that he always talked super highly of me and 'loved your mind' (I guess he liked the way I dissected and thought of things? We always had good conversations). That was the best compliment I've ever gotten. For one, he never told me that. And two, I feel like people see me as this naive/dumb blonde type because I'm outgoing, very friendly, didn't graduate college, class clown type...so to have him tell people that he thought that really sticks with me.

My mom told me she thought we were doing a fabulous job raising C and she thought I'm a good mother.
I really admire my mother and I think she was a wonderful parent, so it means a lot coming from her. I really doubt what I'm doing sometimes. Validation is nice!

Best: When my mom asked me how I get my shower so clean. If you knew my mother, this is huge. HUGE.
Weirdest: An old guy at a bar told me that I looked like a girl who plays scrabble. HAHA.
pear / 1787 posts
@dagret: ha! A girl who plays scrabble! Love it.
The one I remember most is that one of my best friends told me that she really admires my marriage and thinks my husband and I are really great together, and good for each other. That means a lot.

When I was 2 weeks pp, huge, swollen and just generally gross, a woman on the subway was staring at me and when I noticed she apologized, and said I was such a natural beauty. God bless that lady, I don't care if she was lying and was really staring at what a mess I was, her kindness gave me such a boost that day.

Last month I was at a friend's daughters 1st bday party and one of the party-goers (who knew my sisters) asked if I was the youngest out of us 3. It was a boost for me as I'm the oldest and 7 years older than my youngest sibling. I guess I must not look as tired as I feel!

Most memorable: that I could be Marisa Miller's body double.

A US Army Colonel who was a friend of my dad's told me as a teenager that I was smart, creative, and had "that something special" and he saw me becoming Secretary of State someday.
I have absolutely no desire to go into politics but that DID give me the confidence to believe I'm capable of big things.
nectarine / 2504 posts
Not the best but certainly the most memorable, one of my coworkers told me I looked very fertile after not seeing me for several month. I was 8 months pregnant at the time.

My mom has told me multiple times lately that I'm doing a great job as a mommy & handling all the challenges we've had so far. This means so much to me.

Most recently, "You're all belly! It looks so cute and you look great."
Such a nice compliment after all of the, "You're huge, are you sure it's not twins?!" comments.
