My Mom has offered to fly M and me out to Seattle with her so we can meet my nephew who was born in Sept 2011. Would you prefer to fly cross country with a 14 month old or a 26 month old?

They're equally annoying, I'll be honest. At 14 months, you might have a new walker who wants to explore. At 26 months you might have a strong willed toddler who refuses to listen to you.
But I do believe that the more you expose them, the better they are, because they know what to expect. That's why flying protocol is always the same...buy a seat, install car seat we use for flying, snacks, ipad.

@looch: haha. Thank you for the honest opinion. We do fly to Florida once a year but we don't have a lot of reasons to fly so the exposure to airplanes isn't great.

We flew cross country with DD at 15 months and it went pretty well; we took her on a 16 hour one way road trip at 24 months, and she also did really well. For us, the difficult travel age was 20-24 months, so any time after 2 has been a breeze. Since you can't really predict how your LO will be at 26 months, I would say go now. At least at 14 months most kids are sleeping more, so that should help.

For my kid 26 months would have been a better bet. He was still really scared of new things so I think he wouldn't have listened as much. At 26 months he was fully potty trained, talking well so he communicates what he needs much more clearly, and would have been a little more confident to enjoy the experience. Granted, the different challenges wouldn't stop me from going at 14 months.

I think you never know because it just depends on the kid and their mood on that particular day, too. So I say go soon and meet your nephew! That is really nice of your mom!

I was scared to fly with my kid between 12 and 24 months. At 24 months you can bribe them and they understand. At 12 months they don't listen to reason.
