Chicco Keyfit 30 is an amazing option for an infant car seat and is one of, if not THE, top options. We loved ours and we just moved her up to the Chicco NextFit, which is their new convertible option.

We had the Chicco Keyfit & liked it.... my only qualm with it (after recently finding out) is that it cannot brace AT ALL, so ours was actually installed incorrectly b/c it touched the front seats.

We've decided to go with a Combi Coccoro for our next newbie.... it's actually the best rated car seat for premies & has a 4lb minimum weight limit. It also is more compact than most infant seats but has a higher limit than infant seats (36" rf) so you could still get a good amount of use out it (we felt we needed to switch from our keyfit before 12 mths). Also, since you can't really take infant bucket seats in for things like grocery shopping (since it can't go "on" the cart & takes up pretty much the whole basket) and babies shouldn't be in the seat for more than 2ish hours at a time anyways (they restrict airflow), being able to easily remove the seat from the car isn't really on our list of "needs to have...". We just decided to baby wear & use the Combi instead.
