My eldest is 2.5 and I wouldn't take her yet.. She's not that into TV shows to sit there for 2 hours, and I want her first time to be more of a big deal/reward haha.

But, I do have friends who've taken theirs at 2.5-3. They said they did well and would only recommend not doing 3D since the stuff popping out scares them.

I've taken DD to $1 family friendly showings at 18 months and 2.5. She does well but I'll probably wait another year to pay full price for a movie!

As always it depends on the kids. My son was 2 when we first went to the theater. He had previously sat through movies at home. He was great. We took my daughter at a week old because it was the drive ins and we could nurse and be a little loud without disturbing others. Took her at 10 weeks to a summer kids movie with my son. She nursed and slept mostly.

I don't know, I'm thinking of making Inside Out Cam's first movie? I'm going to try him at the zoo with a 15 minute imax first and will probably wait till it's been out for a while, but I think we'll make a date out of it.

@lemondrop: He loves movies. I took him to see Home when that was out and he was a little antsy. To be fair, Home was super boring. For that one, we went when it was almost out of theaters (and school was in) so there weren't many people in the theatre. I was a little nervous for Inside Out because we went during opening week and it was shit packed. He was *really* into it and didn't budge the whole movie. There were lots of kids who talked, cried, got fidgety though. The great thing about kids movies is the great majority of people in there are parents going through the same thing you are. Kids of all ages are unpredictable so no one seemed to mind when one would act up.

I took T when he was about 5 days old to Pitch Perfect LOL!!!!

I have been taking my kids to movies since birth (the theatres near me do "Stars and Strollers" movies that are a touch quieter so you can bring babies - they even pull a change table into the back of the theatre). I found my son could sit through a movie at about age 2 1/2, he is 3 now and even shushes kids or babies that are being "too loud"

Well, I took LO to Anchorman 2 when she was a couple months old in her infant seat and she slept the whole time!

We went earlier this year when our youngest was 3... when she got restless, I just took her on a walk around the block!

I went to movies every Wednesday when I was on mat leave. It was amazing. She slept the whole time. For her to actually watch a movie I am thinking closer to 3. She's almost two and she only gets to watch tv for a few minutes on special occasions. I don't know if she could sit through a movie yet.

@BabyBoecksMom: do any of the theaters near you have the cheap summer kid matinee series? Ours do a "summer movie express" thing that is super cheap and there's 1-2 kid movies every week. And since it's full of kids it was a low-pressure intro to the theater when we first took DS last summer, right around turning 3. He did great!

DD just turned 2 and has no interest in movies. We don't watch tv... I don't think she'd make it past a trailer!

So, probably won't take her for a long time.

Maybe 3 or 4? I know each child is different, but I couldn't imagine my son sitting through a movie anytime soon. He just turned two, and his attention span is still very short. He can only watch TV for 15 minutes max before running off to do something else.

DS did well at 3. DD went to see Planes Fire and Rescue when she was 2 with my parents and they said she was a little restless. She's now three and we're trying again tomorrow.

Definitely depends on the kid. DS is 4.5 and has never seen more than 20 minutes of an animated film. They scare him! He only made it through 2 minutes of Frozen before we had to turn it off. So at this rate, he probably won't go to the movies until he's at least 6!

We went last summer (I'd guess around 17 months?) to a cheap $2 theater with some friends to see Rio. K managed to do fine for about an hour, but we left bc our friend's LO was getting antsy. I'm planning to take her this summer to the theater days set up just for kids (cheap or even free) and the $2 theater again. No sweat if we end up having to leave.

We took Sadie to see Home when it came out. She was about 25 months. She loved it and did awesome. She's almost 2.5 now, and I'd take her again in a heartbeat. In fact, I can't wait to take her to see Inside Out! She keeps asking to see it.

Ds is 2.5 and hasn't watched a full movie yet. He doesn't like loud noise either so we'll probably wait a couple years before taking him to a theatre. Even though I think he could def watch for an hour+.

We tried it for his 2nd birthday and took him to see Disney's Bears, a nature film. We lasted about an hour then said he was ready to go. We didn't try again until just recently (he turned 3 in April), and he seemed to enjoy it. No problems staying for the whole show. But I don't love going to the movies any more (seriously it's $10.25 for a movie ticket. That's insane!), so we won't go regularly until he starts asking.

@lamariniere: I always think L seems so sweet and sensitive. I sweet, sensitive boys.
