With extended rear facing, why are we spending money on seats that can go backwards and forwards? Why hasn't consumer demand dictated longer rear facing-only seats (non-infant) as a step prior to a forward only 5pt harness? Seems like you could get a better seat for your money that way.

Does anyone make a seat like that?

ETA: I'm envisioning a seat that is rear facing until whenever (2, 3, 4,6 - whatever law and/or consumer demand dictates) and then upgrading to a 5 pt harness. Why add the design challenges (& consumer cost) of having a seat that must be able to sit rear facing and forward facing? You have to buy a to buy a forward facing booster at some point anyway, right?
