Mine are rude phone receptionists. I think it's an awful representation of what otherwise might be a good business and it's incredibly disheartening to be on the other end of the line.
I just called my sister's (and mom and dad's) vet to try to get our new kitten in who is having some problems. The receptionist informed me that they had a long waiting list for new clients and would I like to get on it for down the road. I understand waiting lists and wouldn't have fought that but simply replied, "oh that's fine, this is more of a minor emergency situation" to which the receptionist replied "oh, buh-bye." *click* Would it seriously have killed her to say "oh I'm so sorry we can't help, I hope you can find someone" or "have you tried calling ____?" But no, she just hung up on me. I had another similar run in with a chiropractor receptionist recently too...at the clinic I'm a patient at!!
