Savings (that I need to start investing!)

I won't bank on my kids to support us at all!

401k and investments for us.

No I would not ask my kids for money. Unless something really bad happened.

We both save for our retirement so we can live comfortably for as long as we need to when we are ready to retire. I would never, ever, ever expect my kid to take care of me. Same goes for our parents.

I voted for I haven't started saving yet and 401k. I just set my 401k up on Friday - so no money yet! My husband has had a 401k for years, though (he's quite a bit older than me).

I voted other.

I have a few things started and so does DH (from my current and former jobs). 401k, pension, etc. However, I wouldn't say we have a really solid plan, or that we are maximizing these benefits. We need to work on this in the near future, but debt payoff is our current money task.

401k, IRAs as well as non tax advantaged investment accounts. I think the best gift I can give the kids as adults is for us to be completely secure in our finances so they never need to worry about us.

We both have 401ks through our jobs that we contribute to, and plan to open a Roth IRA next year. I don't want to rely on Social Security, and I definitely don't want to depend on my kids.

We have all of the above, plus insurance policies.

I just hope we're in a boom cycle when we retire. I also realize I am heavily weighted in some company stock and I don't want that to go the route of Enron, so I am slowly diversifying.

I sure do hope social security is still around has money in it 30 years from now though... I would like to get something after contributing for it my whole life!

I think this might be a cultural/family thing, though (though I am not certain).

I was just talking to my girlfriend and she was telling me about how her husband is begging her to quit her job to be a SAHM. She works for her parents' business. He said it is too stressful to have her working full time and they could afford for her to stay home. She told him "Pay off my parents' house, and I will stay home."

WOW! I can't relate to this at this point in my life because my parents are in the peak of their careers and are much better off financially than I am right now.

We have 401K plus stocks/private savings. We will not be asking our children for money. We will also have family farm money when we retire.
