K is 10 days old and I'm starting to get a little antsy and want to try taking her out. We've gone on 3 walks, to the Dr., hospital, and lactation boutique only. The last walk was bad because little lady would cry her head off unless she was being held - she refused to lie in her stroller.
DH doesn't want her out at places yet, worried about germs and her immune system, so I can go out for a short while and he'll watch her. But when and where did you start taking out your newborn?

When L was 8 days old, I took him, with DH, to see the latest Twilight movie in the afternoon - the theatre was set up to be baby friendly so it wasn't too loud or anything and it wasn't packed either.

Xander's 18 days and I still haven't taken him anywhere! I'm too scared that he'll be fussy and I won't be able to console him in public! We've only been to the doctor together and for a walk!

We took her to church at 2 weeks and to a Memorial Day cookout/party the next day. I think we also went to Target and Home Depot that same weekend.

i wasn't allowed to go anywhere for a month bc of the month-long confinement! when i finally did take her out, it was to church, target, and babiesrus.
we were worried about germs too, but strapping her in the ergo made us feel better about it. she also hated the stroller as a newborn!

oh and i am not sure if it was before or after the movie at 8 days, but we also took him to a coffee shop down the street from where we live when he was first born.

I wasn't allowed to drive until 2 weeks pp, so on day 14, we went to the mall. I was so stir-crazy!

LO went to Starbucks on day six, the gap on day seven, the grocery store on day 8. We were somewhat lax on her confinement. No one EVER got near her and she was in her UBV bassinet with the plastic cover or I wore her and had her in my coat.

@Mrs. High Heels: I really need K to be okay in a stroller! I love walking and after DH goes back to work, it'll be just me with her for most of the time since he works such long hours. The weird thing is she was okay in the stroller on our first 2 walks.

@oliviaoblivia: what did you wear her with so early? I tried the K'tan once while she was sleeping at home and she seemed ok. Then i tried to put her in it awake yesterday and she was not having it. I have the Ergo and infant insert but wondering if she's still too small for that?

@shopaholic: i went on walks with N in the ergo... consider it "lifting weights" while doing cardio? haha 
i know what you mean though, i'm sure she'll adjust the more you put her in the stroller... it's hard hearing them cry though!

@shopaholic: ya its pretty awesome, it's a regular movie theatre but every wednesday afternoon they play movies for mommies where they lower the sound, keep the lights dim and provide a change pad and table. and crying babies are acceptable. i go almost every week!

We took her to Target & Chick-Fil-A after her two week check-up, and we've been going ever since. Pre-baby I was going all the time, so by 2 weeks I was already going nuts being stuck in the house. She does really great in her carseat though. We have a regular infant carseat/carrier with a thick cover, and we stick her glowy seahorse in there, and she sleeps most of the time we're out. You have great weather there, so I would worry even less about taking her out!

LO didn't leave the house for 2 months unless it was for a doc appt, DH took a month off and worked from home for 2 additional months. So when I had the itch to go out I went out. Funny story though the first place LO went before 2 months old was Knotts Berry Farm, I was craving Mrs Knotts fried chicken but their to go wasn't available in the morning so we ended up eating at the main restaurant and that was the first real place LO went to. We have never ever told anybody this.

C was 6 days old. We took her to the base to do DH's paternity leave paperwork and then to the grocery store. I was never afraid to take her out.

@shopaholic: I had her in the k'tan when she was one week and both the moby and ergo w/ insert a week after that. LO is jumbo sized so she was big enough to wear early on.

We traveled to pick up or LO from another when he was four days old (he's adopted). We took him out the very next day to a restaurant, and went out pretty much every day after that to a restaurant or store - even did some sight seeing. We kept him covered and people were respectful not to touch him.

She was 4 days old and went to the DMV with me for 4 hours! We were really lax about keeping her inside. She went everywhere with us and no one even attempted to touch her with germy hands!

The doctors, then at 9 days old I had to go to the er! It sucked, but she was fine. At two weeks we took her to a restaurant and mall.

We started doing walks around the neighborhood around 3 days old. I took him to a pharmacy in the stroller at about a week old? And to an open house in the moby at 10 days old. Honestly, the fresh air is good for baby and you, and as long as people aren't breathing over her and you're in a ventilated place (so not public transportation or a small stuffy store) she is totally fine!! If she's not happy in the stroller, definitely wear her--the ergo and insert can be used from newborn, and she'll probably like being cozy in there. Same for the k'tan! I would just make sure you try to put her in a carrier when she's in a good mood (like right after you nurse her), and once she's in, start moving--walk around, bounce her gently, etc. A lot of babies don't like just sitting in carriers, but as long as you're moving it's fine.

She went to a lot of restaurants, we just kept her in her carseat and she slept the whole time, every time. The first time was about 10 days old, I think.

We took him to an outdoor mall and a restaurant after a LC appointment when he was five days old. He was in his car seat and mostly asleep. He started going to the grocery store and on other errands later that week, too, and we would walk him around the neighborhood.

@shopaholic: A hated her stroller too and would cry every time we were out and we'd always end up picking her up and walking with her, which was so hard if I was out on my own. In the end we gave up and now we only use the Ergo with the insert and it's great! I don't have to worry about finding elevators everywhere anymore and I can keep her close to me and away from people wanting to touch her. Totally recommend it, it's like strapping on instant freedom!

We went on an overnight trip at 10 days, I had such bad cabin fever! He went shopping and out to eat with us, but it was summer, so we weren't as concerned about random germs.

We took our baby to Target to pick up smaller onesies at 3 days old. He's now 3 weeks, and we typically go on at least one walk per day: around the neighborhood, to Starbucks, to pick up lunch. We've also now eaten out at restaurants a few times, with him either in a carseat or in a carrier. We are lucky that he loves being in carriers (we use the K'tan and the Beco Butterfly II) and his stroller, though.

Target a few times in the baby carrier, the doctor (mine and his), and a friend's gender reveal party that was outside (again in the baby carrier to minimize touching). The last trip to target was almost bad, he's been super fussy so he no longer will sleep everywhere and anywhere - it takes some serious soothing to get him down, and he fusses if he's awake and held for too long! So he woke up and started crying and i almost left the store but then he fell asleep again. Oh and I've taken him out to lunch with a friend a couple times, once outside, once just in a secluded corner of the restaurant with a cover over his car seat.

@ladyfingers: the fussiness is what I'm scared of right now! She is actually going through a growth spurt and will want to feed round the clock so I'm going to try and wait it out.
Good news is I tested the Ergo with infant insert today and she fell asleep in it after a short while of fussing. Yay!

We took her to target at 3 or 4 days old and out to eat. She immediately started going where we went,p. I very firmly believe the fresh air and change of scenery and environments is good for babies. I got some snide comments about taking her out so young but they never bothered me because I don't care what other people think about how I raise my kid. She's been so healthy even with the horrible flu season and I really believe it's because we exposed her to new environments early on.

Target and BBB at 4 days old. We were out and about quickly because it was so nice out and I was already stir crazy! She mostly slept in her car seat. Those were the good old days! Now I bring the boba to wear her because she doesn't like the car seat much anymore.

DS was born with a collapsed lung and was losing weight until he turned 5 weeks old. The pediatrician didn't want us to take him anywhere. It was also the middle of December in New England.
Around 6 weeks we got the okay and I took him for a walk at the mall (with an A+A swaddle over the stroller).
