LO is 13.5 lbs, and I can barely hoist him in the bucket seat (chicco keyfit 30) these days. I know the car seat has a 30 lb max, but I can't imagine trying to hold anywhere near that weight!
When did you stop lugging LO + car seat around?

She was 7-8 months when my back just couldn't take it anymore and we switched her to the convertible. I missed transporting her easily but my muscles thanked me!

with my first, I switched her to a convertible around 5.5 months. I think she was 17 lbs or around there? gosh, I don't even remember. haha.
this time, my baby is probably around 10-11 lbs and I'm already over it. but, I'm lugging a 2.5 year old and a baby+seat to and from the car (we have on street parking down a flight of concrete stairs). It would be way easier to have one on each hip but 1) my infant can't sit like that yet, lol, and 2) it's still crappy weather here. I'm hoping by May!

Ha- c was almost a year and almost 20 lbs when we switched. We often just left the car seat in the base in the car, but it was so nice to have the option to carry her up the stairs in the seat when she fell asleep in the car. And we live up two flights of stairs.
@sorrycharlie: I definitely don't think I could have done it with a toddler too!

@Foodnerd81: that napping thing is the EXACT reason I'm dragging my feet on a convertible. especially with all of Olivia's toddler classes and activities, haha!

@sorrycharlie: well, my sister used to lug her Britax boulevard, with sleeping 2.5 year old in it, into her house from the garage! That is dedication to not waking a kid!

My LO was a little bean, so we didn't switch to the convertible till about 14 months. However, we didn't carry her in and out using the bucket seat - we just left it in the car most of the time.

I am very weak... So I struggled from the get go. I don't drive so my husband brings her in / out of it. I think at 6 months she's around 15 pounds but he's starting to find her + the seat heavy.

We switched at 7 months but I don't remember Los weight. We had a graco snug ride 35.
Next time I'll stick it out as long as the baby falls asleep in the infant seat... Guessing around the same time if baby2 is like dd.

I stopped lugging it around when she was 7 months old. We switched to a convertible when she was 9 months.

We didn't switch to a convertible seat until she was almost 1, but we stopped taking the infant seat out of the base and lugging her around in it when she was probably 4-5 months old. It was nice to be able to bring her inside when she fell asleep in the car for as long as possible, though, and also nice to free up space in the back seat when we needed to without having to un/reinstall the seat, so we held off switching as long as we could.

Stopped taking it in/out of the car at around 6 months and switched to a convertible at 9 months (18lb). I had originally planned to keep him in it till 1 year but honestly I think he didn't like being reclined so much and I was starting to hate that the straps kept twisting. (I also have the Chicco Keyfit 30). The convertible is easier!

Based on my experience nannying, immediately! We're skipping the bucket seat because I HATE hauling them around. I'd rather have to sit in the car with her through a few naps if I'm worried about waking her.

We switched at 7 months because it was just so heavy and uncomfortable!

9 months/18 lbs. So happy I got a smaller carrier. I knew I was going to be a wimp and not want to lug around a carseat that went to 35 lbs.

Around 8/9 months we stopped carrying her seat in unless it was raining or super cold. We switched to her convertible around 10 months.

I am way over it now at 5 months and about 16 pounds. She doesn't even stay asleep in it ninety percent of the time so it's useless. I think I will switch her this weekend actually. I do like having it for going places with friends, it's easier than uninstalling and reinstalling the convertible and we will use it on vacation in a few weeks.

I have no experience actually lugging a baby seat, but, I realized when comparison shopping that the weight of the seat itself alone can vary from 6-14 lbs. We're going with one of the lightest ones we could find in hope of extending the portable part of its life.

We stopped when we switched to a convertible, just before a year (at about 18lbs). But even now at 18 months, she could still fit (weight limit) in the bucket- I just can't imagine lugging that around.

He is 20 lbs & 9 mo. and I am still carrying him in the bucket. Now that it is getting warmer I am ready to change because it is so heavy! He sleeps so well in it on our commute, so I think I will probably keep using it but not carry the bucket in places.

we switched to convertible at 7 months but I think I stopped taking it out of the car around 4 months. LO was always big and just wasn't worth it (by that point she wouldn't stay asleep coming inside anyway)
