LO just started busting out the claps this week. She has been doing other things, but for some reason, just started doing this. She also straight up knocks on closed doors . . . I had no idea!

Eight months. She still only does it occasionally. She'd rather wave.

It was right around 9 months and she hasn't stopped since now at 13 months. She claps when she's happy, when she's mad, when she's trying to tell us something...it's her form of communication!

About 6.5 months. She gets especially hyper with her clapping while I'm watching Kelly and Michael. I think she has a crush on Michael Strahan.

@LuLu Mom: I remember you mentioned teaching LO sign language...has E ever used clapping to mean "more"? The signs are so similar and I think L mixed them up so sometimes when he claps I think he's trying to say more! But not always...? Confusing!

Well, you know Xander started at 7.5! But he's not crawling like R is!!

8 months. but it's last couple of months where he does it on command, when he's excited, or when we sing "if you're happy"

My LO didn't show interest for a long time. I think around 11 months was when he started to do it but it wasn't consistent.

@hilsy85: We've been doing signs since 6 months, but she's never really picked up on them. "More" is usually pounding on her tray and then I ask if she wants "more" and use the sign she says nods her head and says "yeah." But I do know she claps when she's mad, when we got to change her diaper and she cries and starts clapping! ha

All of a sudden around 8 months he started, but after he got it, he quit...

LO started clapping his hands when we showed him how to do it at around 9 months. At 10.5 months though, he started clapping "on command"! It is the best thing ever

@hilsy85: hahaha M claps for more too!!! And sometimes I can't tell if she's "all done" or just doing an enthusiastic two handed wave!

Our LO was a late clapper...he didn't clap until 11.5 months. He did bang things together though if I told him to around 9 months, so I took that as the same movement.

@MamaMoose: my LO's all done also looks like a two-handed wave . . . although she usually follows it up with a slight shove on her tray--or a big frown and *enough arredy woman* looks when I try to get her to take another bite-- so there is that too.

All of the sudden, at 10 months exactly he started raising his arms and putting his hands together. I wouldn't call it clapping but he is definitely trying to mimic us! Same thing with waving too, all of the sudden he is trying to wave back.

8 months
@MamaMoose: LO used to clap for all done! And then i did something dumb and accidentally said the sign for "please" was "more" and now she claps when she says please. I can't fix it!

@MamaMoose: @hilsy85: @MsLipGloss: I wish R would do something to let us know more or done. I never know. I worry we are over feeding her. They teach them sign language at day care too.

They started clapping around 9.5 months. They'll clap whenever we say "yay" now and T also claps during diaper changes (weird).
At 10 months, they'll sometimes wave, but haven't gotten the whole hang of it.

LO is 8 months, when we clap she'll throw her hands together and shake her hands. So not yet.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@Smurfette: My LO also does a face scrunch, holds her hands in front of her face, gives the windshield wiper treatment (or bombs away treatment) to any remaining food on her tray, or pushes away the food (if I am trying to feed her), or any combination thereof. The *all done* is not always communicated!

She started around 10 months and at 11.5 months does it all the time and says "Yay" while doing so. It's the cutest thing!

@Freckles: my lo used to clap once and then sign all done!
she started clapping late, maybe 12 or 13 months? she started trying at 9 months but would hold her hands together and move them up and down. Now she claps allll the time.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Smurfette: They definitely will let you know when they're done. When my LO was really young, she would start scrunching her food, then she moved onto shaking her head. Now she will either shake her head or tell me she's done. But i usually have to ask her (if i notice that she's playing with her food or not wanting to eat).
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@MsLipGloss: @Smurfette: sometimes I just don't understand them. M knows what sign goes with what word (if you say more she signs it, same with all done) but she doesn't seem to really know what it means. Because sometimes she'll sign all done and toss her food, but other times she'll sign all done and then reach for more food.

At 8 mos she started clapping with closed fists lol. Kinda defeats the purpose! I don't really clap that much at her so maybe I should! She only does it at our music class.
