When did your OB start checking you for dilation/efface? I'm currently at 34 weeks and I think I've probably started dilating. Just wondering when they start checking. I can't remember from DS#1.

She offered at 36 weeks during my gbs swab. Was offered another at my 38w visit.

Mine didn't until 40 weeks or in labor, unless you requested it early. I was happy to skip it since it doesn't really tell you much anyway. I saw midwives who were generally low intervention.

Mine started offering at 36 weeks and I refused until 40 weeks. If I had gone past 40 weeks not sure if they would have insisted or not.

@avivoca: Mine checked me prior to labor because I knew I was a 3 cm for a few weeks before my due date. I just can't recall when she actually started checking.
@Foodnerd81: Wonder if I can request it earlier.
@Truth Bombs: I bet that's when she started with DS#1. Because it seems like I recall 3 weeks before my due date I was a 3 cm. Amazing how quickly you forget this stuff

@turkeylurkey: I know some offices do check you starting at 35 weeks, but my midwife/OB office tends to be more hands off since checks don't really tell you much and can vary depending on the practitioner (their words, not mine). I went into labor at 40w2d, so I have no idea if they would have checked me at my 41 week appointment.

Mine never checked before I was induced at 37 weeks. I wasn't having any contractions at all, Braxton hicks or otherwise, so they didn't feel the need to check

once you pass your edd they offered to do a membrane sweep and checked then. otherwise, not until i was in labour.

At 37wks my Dr offered & I happily accepted. I like having as much info as possible.

Not till labor! My doctor offered earlier, but I asked if we can skip the checks and she agreed!

35 weeks with LO2 but only because I was feeling pressure and tons of strong Braxton hicks (I ended up being 2cm and I forget the station and effacement). LO1 wasn't until 38 or maybe 39 weeks because there was no real medical need.

Not until 39 weeks with #1 (because they were planning on inducing me for high BP, I also got membrane sweep) and never with #2. My OB says she doesn't see the point in checking unless you're getting induced and they need to know if your cervix is favorable/what route to take.

I was having some contractions so I was checked at 36 weeks. After that, in the hospital when I was in labor

They asked if I wanted to be checked starting at 38 weeks, but I declined until 40 weeks when my curiosity got the best of me. I didn't want to be checked because I didn't want to feel either disappointed or too excited depending on the results.

mine never checked me til I was in active labour. at my final OB appointments he just had a look on the ultrasound so I'm guessing he could see?

I asked starting at 38 because I wanted my membranes stripped starting at 39 weeks. I wasn't dilated enough to strip until my visit at 40w2d - went into labor a few hours later!

@turkeylurkey: My OB would have started at 36 weeks if I was curious but you can be dilated and effaced for weeks and weeks so since I didn't think it really told me much about when I would go into labor I declined it until 39 weeks. I didn't want the unnecessary pain!
