LO was in NICU for 8 days and once everyone heard he was home, everyone tried to invite themselves over. I've just been blunt, saying he just got out of NICU and no visitors were allowed. Our families aren't nearby so any visitors would be overnight guests, which makes it even harder.
For the most part, people have been understanding but I'm wondering how long we should keep him on lockdown? I'm thinking until his due date, which is 3 weeks from now.
When did you allow visitors post-discharge?

We didn't worry about it but she was full term and healthy.
I think waiting until his due date is a good idea. Plus you can go ahead and talk to family about getting the vaccines since even at that point he won't have had them yet (like the flu and wooping cough).

My parents stayed with us for most of the first week though I was in the hospital for all but two days of their stay. My sisters and BIL were with us the next week. MIL for a few days after that. We had drop in visitors just about every other day. It really wasn't all that bad.
I'd recommend only having people that you know will be positive and helpful. MIL was tough to be around during that period but everyone else was great.

Oh I've been so stressed about this and DH and I got into a tiff about it this morning. I think I'm going to want my mom there but not his parents and it seems to be really upsetting him. But my mom is so much more helpful (and a nurse) who I would be comfy BFing in front of). His parents are less helpful and I feel like they would stress me out.. ugh such a predicament.
I say do what you are comfortable with! Will you be sad if they don't see your LO when he is so young? Or are you completely fine waiting?

My parents and ex-FIL came over the day we brought him home, but after that I really limited outings and visitors until his due date. I didn't have to so much, though, cause I really didn't have a line out the door or anything.

LO came out of the NICU in early January so other than our parents and siblings we didn't let anyone come over for a month or 2 because of flu season. Starting in March we felt more comfortable bringing him out and having people over to see him.

I think due date is a good idea, time to get his immune system built and used to his surroundings.
LO was in the NICU for 6 days and we allowed visitors once we got home but only close family and friends, but she was full term.

I just don't want to risk getting him sick. My grandmother constantly has bronchitis and doesn't think it's a big deal. She nearly came down to see him in the NICU with a case of bronchitis. Thankfully my mom ran interference.
I don't think I'll feel comfortable passing him around for several weeks and I don't want to piss people off but his health is the most important thing.

We didn't worry about this since she was full term, but it was SO overwhelming when everyone and their brother wanted to visit. We had people who we never really see want to come and see her, which was even more annoying. Then, when people did come and visit they would stay hours upon hours upon hours. DH's friends came and it was 11:30pm and I finally said I needed to go to bed, and they didn't take the hint it was time to go, so I went to bed and they stayed. Long story short, stand your ground, take care of your LO and spend time with LO and don't worry about anyone else, or hurting feelings! Your baby is most important.
