My 8 month old is huge. 29.5" and 23 lbs. He's only .5" away from the height limit on his bucket seat, but I'm totally not ready to lug him in and out of the convertible yet (with a toddler in tow too!)
**I made sure that his head is still 1" under the top, this boy is all legs!**

DS was probably 8 months, he was 80-90% on the size chart.
He just got too heavy with the carrier!
DD was a year, she is 30-40% on the size chart. I actually dreaded switching her because it was easier to have her contained. She was walking at 10 months so that way I could strap her in and get her to stay put while I got the toddler ready to go.

About 9 months, also because of height. We were still carrying him around it in because he wasn't that heavy, just super tall. I kept him in it until his head reached the limit.

Not until 1 year, but she's tiny. I prefer carrying her to lugging the bucket seat.

LO1 hit the height limit of his bucket seat by 8 months so that’s when we switched. LO2 is almost 7 months and still in his bucket seat, but I want to switch him soon because he’s so heavy in that darn seat!

We moved DS around 6/7 months, the bucket was just too heavy and he did not seem comfortable in it. He was probably around 22 pounds at the point and 29".
I also kept a carrier in the car anyone and preferred to babywear vs dealing with the bucket for errands etc. To your point though, with a second child the bucket is often times easier...

Gosh, around 6 months. I just didn't connect the dots that I could leave the seat installed in the car and just move him in and out of the seat. I couldn't transfer him into the car without jiggering the seat around and it woke him up, which to me, defeated the point of moving the seat.

Around a year for both of them- but I started just leaving it in the car most of the time towards the end of that year. So I pretty much treated it as a convertible, but had the option to take it out if they fell asleep or I needed to be able to put the baby down safely (hello, rest stop bathrooms on a road trip!). Both my kids were pretty little and still well within the height and weight limits.

Around 9 months for both kids. They didn't max out; both just hated the infant seat as they got older.

About 12 months with DD1 and 5 months with DD2 because I hurt my arm. It didn’t make it any harder to move around with a toddler in tow.

6 months for my oldest because we were going on a road trip and his convertible looked more comfortable.
5 months for my youngest because the bucket seat was going to expire soon.

@looch: @Foodnerd81: Ha! I have a 4-month old that I was considering switching to a convertible because she's pretty heavy and I'm already getting sick of lugging around the infant seat. It never crossed my mind that I could just leave it in the vehicle and treat it like a convertible! That would be handy for when she falls asleep in it and I want to keep her asleep for a while, so I could just pull it out then. Thanks for the tip!
Switched my older daughter at 9 months, but she was on the smaller side for weight.

@kayla0416: i did this with both my kids and as a result they stayed in the bucket until about 13/14 months (they were small in height and weight). i stopped lugging it in and out around 6 months though as i am guessing that is when it got too heavy. I waited basically until i could find a deal on the convertible i wanted and then waited even longer to install the convertible out of procrastination.

I switched my son somewhere around 8-9 months, he was within a fraction of an inch of outgrowing it and it was just sooo heavy lugging him and the seat around. He has consistently been in the 99+% on height and head size since birth and in the mid to upper 90% in weight.

Around 8-9 months. DD is 99% for height so we had no choice. She's also 95+% for weight so the bucket was getting really heavy.

@californiadreams: Yeah, I just looked up the height/weight limits of the infant seat we have and we could've had my older daughter in it til about 15 months, and she's tall! I didn't realize the limits were that high.

With my son I did early, maybe 4months? He was giant and hated the car so I thought I’d see if it would help (minimally helped btw).
With my daughter, I don’t really carry her around in it anymore at almost 6m but I plan to leave her in it for a while closer to maxing our height because I want to keep my 3yo rear facing and then get him a new car seat FF at some point this summer.

My first was small, so we never hit the limits. We upgraded at a year. My second was larger and came close, but didn't quite hit the limit, she upgraded about 11 months because that's when I found a deal on her convertible!

DS hated the bucket seat (reflux) and we switched him around 7 months. We switched DD around 8 months.
We aren't in the car much and neither of my kids are car nappers so the transfer ability of a bucket seat is lost on us anyway.

I think around 14 months. She was average height and skinny so she was easy to move in the seat and I liked the convenience!

Our infant seat had a 32" limit and she outgrew it just before a year.

12 months. His height growth slowed down, he was on the cusp of being to talk for a couple months and then finally we switched.

7 months for my two giants. By then I was leaving the bucket in the car anyway. They seemed happy to get more space and I found it easier to get them in.

It was around 8/9 months. He was also getting close to the height limit and he was so heavy to lug in the bucket anyway.

Lo1 was huge and I stopped using the bucket seat at 9 or 10 months. He looked so uncomfortable. We had uppababy messa which had a really high hight and weight limit. He will had room in it but was much happier in the convertible.
Lo2 is smaller and fit the Mesa until a year. I was so sad to stop using it.

We kept our older daughter in the seat until 12 months. Our younger DD (10 mo) can still fit in it, but it’s hard to carry! We’re putting a convertible seat in the car for her this weekend.

DS1 and DS2 were both around a year. DS3 I'll be moving this week - he is 10 months.
