I got my first car at 16 because I already had a job. My parents both worked and couldn't take me to work. We lived in a town without decent public transportation. Try paid $500 for it and bought it from a family member. It was so ugly, but I loved having it!

Age 16, it was a Dodge Shadow. I loved that car. Previous to that, we had a Dodge Aspen station wagon from 1979, it was tilted to one side and the brakes were questionable.

I've never owned a car as an adult though, I've managed my entire adulthood so far without one!

I think I was 17 when I got my first car - maybe 16 though. I was working and my mom was tired of having to take me to and pick me up from work every day. I had that car until my early 20's, when it got handed down to my brother who crashed and totaled it.

I was fortunate enough to be given a car when I was 16 and got my license. It wasn't a brand new car but it was nice enough. My parent gave it to me though, because they had toddlers and could never get me where I needed to be. It was more for them than it was for me!

I got my first car at 16, but I saved up my own money for years and bought it myself.

Eeek, I'm going to sound really spoiled, but my parents bought my car when I was 14, almost 15. For the year before I got my license, my mom drove it most of the time. I still have it 8 years later...I'm about to buy MY own first car now!

My dad says he got it then because he found such a good deal on it. (3 years old, 30k miles, and less than $10,000).

I was 17, a Mercury Grand Marquis, yellowish-white color. Seriously the ugliest thing ever. No heat, no air, three of the windows didn't go down. Back seat belts didn't work. Radio antenna was a coat hanger. Seriously. It worked.

i was about 20-21.... my parents got it for me and i started paying for it when i got my first job.

16. My dad bought me a brand new Toyota Corolla for my birthday-- my parents are divorced and I lived with my mom, so I think my dad liked to contribute financially to my upbringing whenever he could.

Then I totaled it less than a year later. WAH.
