We don't plan on moving LO to a toddler bed until at least the end of the summer/early fall when she will be about two. DH's coworker asked if we had moved her yet and when he said no, she said we need to pull the plug eventually and stop babying her. I thought that was rude, but then it got me wondering when others moved their LO out of the crib. What made you decide to move them?

We transitioned to using his crib with a toddler rail a few months before he turned 2. Big mistake. Even though he was ready for the responsibility, he wasn't ready for such a big change. We battled bedtime for months, and our only solution came down to sleeping next to him every night. Before DS2 arrived, we switched him to a twin bed on the floor and continued to sleep with him. I recently pulled the plug last week and have had success with him sleeping by himself... almost a year since we transitioned out of the crib.

We put him on a floor bed at 15 months. He's been in it for two months and is doing great.

E is 18 months, still in the crib and no plans to switch until he starts climbing out of it.

We have absolutely no plans to transition out of the crib until closer to 3. Why fix it if it ain't broke?

Whatever. We transitioned right around 2. It was a great age to do it.

We don't plan to transition until as close to 3 as possible. He still wears a sleep sack at 22 months and has never tried to climb out.

At about 28 months. We were iced in the house and I knew we'd start potty training soonish and felt we needed to transition to a toddler bed before working on the potty.
It was a seamless drama-free transition for us. She doesn't get out until we tell her to and never had any sleep issues as part of the transition.
Make the change when you are ready.

I nannied for one 2yo who was still in hers, and it was fine. Another was just a few months older (still 2), and in a full size bed and that worked fine too. It depends on the kid. My cousin's son is still in a crib at 3, though he's TINY due to health issues. But he doesn't mind at all, so why not?

My son is 27 months and we have no plans to transition anytime soon. He doesn't try to climb out and naps happen because he's still in the crib! We have another due in 10 weeks and decided to buy a separate crib and mattress for the new baby. I don't want to mess with our sons sleep, it took far too long to get him to sleep through the night.

Reading this thread is making me realize I'm going to have to buy another crib for LO 2 since DS will only be 12 months when baby arrives. I hadn't thought about the fact that it will probably be best to leave him in a crib until he's 2 or so. Yikes -- another thing to buy!

Absolutely no plans to move our 2yo out of her crib anytime soon! She sleeps very well in her crib and doesn't mind it at all! I don't think we will be transitioning anytime soon!

Woah, totally rude of her. What works for her does not work for everyone!
We aren't even close to thinking about that yet, but the mom friends I have all seem to transition around two or after.

20 months and we have no plans to move him.

DS is 17 months and I'd like to move him around 2 so that the new baby can use his crib.
My sister moved her youngest to a toddler bed just before he turned 3. The oldest was about 2.5 and middle probably also about 3. -
Huh? My daughter is a couple weeks younger than yours and she won't be switching anytime soon!!! She would roll right out.
If it makes you feel any better my dad asked me recently whether I had started potty training, lol.

@googly-eyes: I have two friends who are forcing potty training right now and their LO's are almost a month younger than A...I see that will likely backfire. Our kids aren't even 1.5 yet lets take it down a notch!

LO is only almost 15 months old and we have absolutely no plans to make the switch in the near future. He has had a tough time with sleep and if his nights continue to be even somewhat decent, we will keep him in the crib... forever?! Seriously though, I hadn't even begun to think about this, so you are not alone!

Not planning on switching until she starts climbing out. She loves it at 21 months, so I don't foresee us transitioning anytime soon.

Around 33 months! He slept wonderfully in his crib and never tried to climb out. We transitioned at 33 months because baby2 was due in a few months and we needed the crib and didn't want DS to feel like we were kicking him out for the baby. The transition was totally fine.

The plan is to transition her around 2.5 but it will depend on when she's ready. (And not moving around so much in her sleep!)
