When did you start buying maternity clothes? When did you start actually wearing maternity clothes? I'm early on in my pregnancy, so I'm afraid to even look at maternity stuff in a store, let alone buy it! I do browse online sometimes for fun, just to see what I like. Even if I came across something I liked on sale, I'd be afraid it wouldn't fit because I have no idea what I'm going to look like!

I found out I was pregnant in March and bought a bunch of stuff for winter because it was on clearance or I found it at Goodwill. I am SO glad I did - it saved me a ton of $ to not buy at full price because I needed it (I bought a fleece jacket, 4 long sleeve shirts, and 2 pairs of jeans).
I actually "needed" maternity wear (at least in pants) probably around 14 weeks - but I am petite and have carried really straight out so it depends on your body. I figured I knew I'd need it eventually so why be less comfortable or wait, ya know?
I also found that a lot of my pre-pregnancy clothes transitioned just fine (yoga-waist pajamas, knit skirts, maxi dresses, tunic-y tops) up until 30 weeks or so.

Around 19 weeks I bought a bella band and then started shopping in maternity clothes around 25 weeks or so

I refused to buy anything until 12 weeks because I didn't want to jinx anything. At that point I bought a pair of jeans and one pair of work pants. That was June so since it was warm out I was still able to get away with all of my non maternity skirts, dresses, and shirts and didn't need to buy much more until I was around 20 weeks. And then I got lucky and had friends lend me a bunch of stuff.

i bought maternity jeans around 10 or 11 weeks and was in HEAVEN. I used a BeBand with my regular pants, too. I'd say I switched over to Maternity tops around 17 weeks or so?

I bought some jeans early on, around 8 weeks or so. I didn't like the bella band and I was feeling super bloated. My mom also bought a few shirts for me. I waited until I actually needed them to buy anything else.

I started wearing maternity bottoms at 10 weeks; a bella band at 8 weeks, but I found it to be very uncomfortable because I was sooo bloated. I was able to wear some shirts longer, but now that I'm 26 weeks I can wear almost 0% of my nonmaternity shirts, even the T-shirts that were long on me pre-pregnancy.

I never wore maternity clothes, I bought a belly band but that's it.

I bought a couple of pairs of jeans first so I could switch over when needed--I think I started wearing them around 18 weeks, although I probably could have lasted a little longer in regular jeans. Those are the first things that get too small; you can probably wait longer on shirts (at 23 weeks some of my maternity ones still look silly b/c my bump isn't that big).

@Bao: Impressive!! At 37 weeks I can still wear a lot of my pre-pregnancy tops but I would have never made it without maternity pants!

Interesting! I'm hoping a lot of my stuff will work later in pregnancy... I have a lot of flowy blouses, but they might end up being too short.

Haha... I just found out I was pregnant last week and I bought a shirt today
It was 5$ on clearance at Target, I couldn't pass it up!! I also bought a non-maternity dress in a stretchy fabric that will look adorable with leggings -
I started wearing mat pants at 11 weeks and now at 17 weeks I'm pretty much solely in maternity clothes!! It's heavenly.

My pants were so tight at 8 weeks, they made me sick. I wore the Bella ban until about 12 weeks but my pants would slide down underneath and I had to reach down at my desk and fix them a lot. I outgrew my shirts just as fast-they weren't long enough for me. I picked up some blousy tips to tide me over and went with maternity around week 13. My regular twill pants stopped fitting around week 15, which is about when I boxed up all my stuff. Nothing fit. My clothes all fit me well before-nothing was too big or roomy-so I don't think I had much leeway. I also looked pregnant in those clothes and I wanted to avoid giving my coworkers a good chance at guessing. Maternity is so comfy and non restricting

Ha! I think I win here! I bought a large amount of maternity clothes 2 weeks before I even got my BFP! In my defense, I got 80 items of clothing for $40 from my work classified adds and they are all super great (Gap, Old Navy, A Pea in the Pod, Citizens of Humanity, etc) so it was virtually impossible to pass up! They amazingly all fit great (as far as I can tell not being super pregnant yet). I am 10w3d now and don't need them at all yet, but it is great knowing they are there when I need them and that I won't have to blow a ton of money on maternity clothes.

I may have been the crazy lady who picked up some dress pants and capris on sale earlier in the year, too. I knew I'd eventually need them!

I bought a few things off of Zulily around 8 weeks, and I wish I hadn't! By the time I could wear them they didn't fit! I really didn't need maternity pants until about 19 weeks, although I did start buying some around 15 weeks.

I bought some items on Gilt and on sale @ target when I got my first bfp. I haven't had to use the bella band yet, though I could. I also bought a few jeans and bottoms here & there at Gap & Old Navy & Destination Maternity on sale to have when the weather gets colder. Honestly @ 22 weeks I still dont have to wear anything maternity, but I have started wearing the leggings especially because they are more comfy. That and long tank t ops. I think it's worth getting some bottoms any time u can get them on sale. I just bought my regular sizes.

My jeans started feeling tight right around 12 weeks. I started wearing maternity pants then. For tops, I wore flowy regular tops until about 4 months.

@JoJoGirl: Thanks! It's exciting to still be pregnant! After we saw the heartbeat on the ultrasound around 6 weeks I felt better about it, but in 1.5 weeks at 12 weeks I'll feel alot better!

I had to buy a Belly Band for my pants around 11 weeks. Then I bought a couple shirts around 18 weeks. And I finally upgraded all my shirts and pants to maternity clothes this week (22 weeks).

Following this post. I'm struggling with this at 10 weeks - I want to buy some new fall/winter clothes but I feel unable to because maternity clothes are just overwhelming.

i bought a belly band around 12-14 weeks but i find that it rides up and isn't super practical (i still use it anyhow when i wear pre-pregnancy pants) I have one pair of maternity pants that i bought at Old Navy but I'm super picky and just haven't found maternity clothes that I'm crazy about - I'm 20 weeks this week and a lot of my pre-pregnancy tops still fit so as long as they work I'm going to keep wearing them
(and wait for a sale at ON or Gap/whereever else I can find cute maternity clothes) Where does everyone else shop for maternity clothes? I find that motherhood maternity is in general slightly overpriced and kind of frumpy

I wore maternity pants by 10 wks. I had major bloating. I was also in maternity tops because my boobs were out of control! I needed the bigger coverage.

12 wks ish? Not until second trimester... shopped the sale racks at gap target and motherhood. Had to get pants pretty early on for office wear
