When did you introduce a pacifier? LO1 - I waited the recommended 6-8 weeks and she never took to a pacifier and refused to drink from a bottle. This time around I want to make sure that's not a problem, and LO2 seems to have a strong desire to suck. He found his own fingers and thumbs within the first hour. Nurses at the hospital are still pushing to wait at least 2-4 weeks, but PPP IRL i know say pop the paci in right away.
Anyone have issues either way?

I started around one week with LO1 and even sooner with LO2, maybe 4 days old. No issues with either of them. LO2 is now 5 weeks and goes between boob, bottle, pacifier with no problems.

I popped that paci in at the hospital. LO was EBF for over a year. Paci had no negative effect on breastfeeding for us.

They gave her one in the nicu immediately. She still doesn't nurse well, but I really don't think it's related. They said it would help her learn to suck, but I kind of regret not stopping them anyway.

We waited until 3 weeks and have had no issues with his latch. He only likes the soothie pacifiers, he spits out everything else.

My LO also showed a strong desire to suck right away and we gave him the pacifier at the hospital. He is 6 weeks today and EBF, he also goes between the paci, breast and bottle with no issues. I am happy to have it as a tool in my arsenal to soothe him.

Right away at hospital. She was cluster feeding and always wanted to suck. My boobs needed a break. No issues with bottles.

I've never heard to wait 6-8 weeks; up to 4 is the general consensus I'm aware of. With that said, we introduced one at around 10 days with both our doc and LC's blessing. In fact, the pacifier can help reduce SIDS risk, so I think waiting 2 months is a long time since it puts you already into the SIDS window.

Three weeks as far as regular use (probably popped it in before that a few times) with both with no issues! They both were on formula supplementation the first week on/off for different reasons (jaundice / latch / wt gain) though so I think that helped with pacis not being an issue for us. Ds1 didn't really have a long attachment to them after the first few months.

I tried right away because our LO spent 5-7 hours/day screaming from the time she was 5 days old until 1 mo. Unfortunately she didn't really take to it until she was about 6 weeks old

We started in the hospital - no issues with bf or bottles from it! She was trying to feed like every 45 min in the hospital and I needed a break!

Introduced it the first night in the hospital. LO is EBF. Like others have said, I appreciated the break and it is something to help soothe him.

5 weeks with LO1 and 3 weeks with LO2. Both times it was mostly to help spit up problems. Both hated it though. LO1 was done with the paci at 5 months and LO2 at 3 months.

I used the pacifiers a couple days after birth. Maybe 48 hours? And I EBF two kids who never would even take a bottle! They were still boob monsters.

We started at 3 days old. It was the only way we could get respites from the constant screaming when DD was under the bili lights (she hated that process!)

The nurse brought us one in the hospital on night three because LO would not stop crying. We had unrelated latch problems and she ended up not using a soother much. She only seemed to like the hospital ones but much preferred her fingers.

They gave it to him in the NICU immediately. DS had issues nursing for about two weeks, but I believe it's because he was just so small. He's a pro now. After he came home from the NICU, I used the pacifier after maybe 6-8 weeks? But I didn't use it consistently for sleep until 4m. He sucks on anything and everything - syringe for Vitamin D, bottle, he does not discriminate!

2 days old. He was constantly nursing and my boobs needed a 2 minute break and I needed a shower.

Somewhere between 4 and 6 weeks with LO1. She never took to it.
For LO2 we introduced at the hospital and then tried to get him attached at 1 week... and ever since. He is not taking it either.

The day we left the hospital(3 days old) she was wailing when we put her in the car seat and the nurse suggested we try it. 2 years later and my girl still loves her pacifier (for better or worse). She never had trouble with a bottle or nursing

We waited until 4 weeks, he never had issues with nipple confusion or taking a bottle and was EBF for a year. I'll be starting much sooner with #2.

We waited 4-6 weeks (as to not cause nipple confusion), she didn't really like the paci in the beginning, and didn't really reliably take one till like 4+ months. Even now, it's not a MUST; and she spits it out at some point.

LO got a paci in the hospital. She didn't have a problem going between boob, bottle and paci. We weaned her off of it a little after her 2nd birthday.

2nd night in the hospital...the nurses were bringing her to me from the nursery every 30 mins to nurse...she is a comfort sucker...nurses tried to talk me out of it but I knew it was the right decision.
No issues EBF'ing and she took a bottle with no issues starting at 2 mos.

Around 1 week I think? The comfort sucking was too much for my poor boobs.

We waited a month before trying, but she didn't really take to them (or bottles) until she started daycare at 3 months. The daycare teachers actually bought her a pacifier and within a couple days, she was hooked. For the next baby, I probably won't wait so long. It would have been nice to be able to soothe her with a paci over my maternity leave.

I introduced it right away but I bottle fed so I wasn't worried about nipple confusion

DS1 - 4 days. Blood was literally dripping from my poor cracked nipples.
DS2- I asked them to bring me one the first day in the hospital.
Both EBF for just over a year. The older would never take a bottle. -
We used the paci at the hospital. (Sore boobs!) DD didn't have any problems BF-ing (for 19 months) and would take a paci or bottle whenever offered.

I waited about 2 weeks, but only because I was very focused on getting my supply established and wanted the stimulation. I felt guilty but by the time I did introduce it, we were spending hours each evening with her sucking either my or DH's finger. So I figured I might as well give her a paci. And I am so glad I did.

We tried in the hospital but she just wasn't having it. She started taking it at 8 weeks old out of the blue (previous attempts were a no-go).

Like 2 days? We were in the same predicament after waiting the 6 weeks with our first. Our second was using me as a pacifier and killing my nipples and we introduced it. We've had no issues with being and she takes bottles no problem.

DD - waited 6-8 weeks, she took to it quickly (soothies, then MAM). Bottle training was difficult but eventually she took Tommee Tippee ones.
DS - officially waited 6-8 weeks, though we tried a few times before when he was extra fussy and he got a sugar? dipped one at the hospital during his circ. But, overall he rejected paci's. Bottle training took a while, too.
Also neither of my kids have ever been thumb/finger suckers.

T's more of a hand/arm sucker. He does take one before sleep and especially from DH. Just not so much from me. No issues BFing or with bottles, though. He's just not a paci junky like his sis.

Like her second day of life. I think nipple confusion is a lot of hype. Just my personal opinion and experience though!
I will say, I was totally ready to hold out the recommended amount of time for a breastfed baby. However, a screaming baby called for any measures necessary

Thanks for everyone's input! DH is all gung-ho for the paci and picked up a couple of different varieties last night. The Soothie/WubbaNub ones still seem kind of big. He got some MAM and Munchkin Latch ones - we'll try them when we feel the need.
