How old was your LO when you started using your jogger (to run, not stroll)? I am a runner and can't wait to get my 20 week old in it but I'm not sure he's ready. I have a Kelty Joyrider and the instructions say "when baby can hold head upright" or 8-12 months (?!) My son has good head control but he's only 16lbs.

My doc was fine with it at 6 months (when baby could sit up independently), but I would only run on flat pavement so baby isn't getting jostled around too much.

I did at 3 months, but I borrowed an infant carseat insert so his head was stable and nestled in there, and only jogged on pavement.

6 months, ped approved. I tried it earlier when she was a couple months (in the carseat attached) and it seemed fine on pavement but I was too nervous so I didn't really do it after that. I don't think most peds will probably approve of it before 6months or so.

@kes18: Good to know, didn't think of asking my Ped! They're very "one size fits all" in their recommendations, I'm sure they'll say 6 months.

I started running with DD when she was 7 weeks old. We have a BOB and I used the car seat attachment which had the infant insert in it. She was totally fine and loved it. I didn't go over any rough terrain obviously but we did roads and sidewalks. She's 6 1/2 months now and while we are using the bigger kid option for walks we still have her in the car seat for running so I can see her easily and she's more secure that way. Oh, and the pediatrician approved.

I think somewhere 4-5 months? I just reclined the BOB as far as it would go, cinched the straps tight, and stuck to smooth roads. It was also like once/week at that point (not everyday), so I wasn't too worried about it. She had good head control and the jostling was minimal.

Smooth roads only starting around 6 months! I tried to get my first runs back at it done without the stroller, for a me break and to get in shape a little more first, then took it easy on both me and baby as we started stroller runs!

I used the infant car seat adapter early on. And then would jog with him actually sitting up (reclined some) at 5-6m. But I was just getting back into shape and I think my *running* at that point was more like walking

6 months. Be careful when attaching car seats; its makes the center of gravity really high for the stroller (in fact most true jogging strollers advise against jogging with the car seat on.)
Jogging with my infant was sort of like how I view skiing: I'm perfectly safe just me going down the hill, but its all of the other morons I have to look out for (For jogging thats cars, kids, pets, bicycles). If you had to make a sudden stop or quick turn would the stroller/baby be ok? -
I used the infant car seat adapter within 8 weeks once I got the go ahead from pp. I put a blanket around his head for extra support.
He just turned 8 months, and I have yet to run with him in our BOB. He's not a huge fan of the stroller in general though which is a bummer. LO1 loved it, and I often used it to help him nap. LO2 isn't having it.

I'm pretty short, so I couldn't see directly in front of the BOB when the car seat adapter was in place,but she had good head control, and ped approved starting at 4mo. Before then, DH would walk her in the stroller while I ran.

Update: I started my son at about 5 months in our Kelty jogger and he did great. I user a head Snuzzler support thing just to be safe. I so enjoy taking him on my 5 mile runs, I never hear a peep out of him!

@pachamama: 5 miles with the stroller is awesome! The longest I ever went was 4 miles and that was so hard. I'm not sure how I'll fare pushing the double next summer!

@avivoca: my god, it really is hard pushing it and my 19lb kid. My HR gets so high especially up any sort of incline. Also, the front tire has a slow leak so that adds to the difficulty lol. I guess it's a better workout tho!

@pachamama: awesome! i trained for a marathon doing quite a few of my mid-range runs with an 18m old in a jogging stroller. it was brutal somedays, but made the race itself seem easier
there is a reason they don't call it a RUNNING stroller! hahaha

@pachamama: wow thats great!!! good for you you. i just purchased a new Thule jogger; so much better than my last jogger and it actually has made running fun again.
