Around 5.5 weeks when I had my postpartum appointment. I put the car seat in the body of the shopping cart!

DH went back to work when LO was 4 weeks old, and we went out by ourselves then. I put her in the sling at the grocery store. I couldn't fit groceries and the carseat in the basket of the cart, and I was too nervous to out the carseat on top. Partly because I didn't want her to fall off, and partly because I couldn't see over it. I found people are much less likely to get in her face when I'm wearing her, also.

My DH has been at work also (except for weekends), so we had to start venturing out on our own. I was going stir crazy. I don't put the carseat on top of the shopping cart (makes me nervous), I put it inside of the shopping cart. At first, I was nervous going out with her alone, but I found my groove. Now, we can go lots of places & I feel comfy.

I know what you mean about strangers. One lady got so close to K, I had to tell her to back off. My mind went to survival mode lol. Now I keep her covered.

L is H's age as you know. We took her to church at six days and i took her to a Christmas street festival at thirteen. This week I started running smaller errands with her (dry cleaners, bakery, etc.) I'm ordering groceries for now, but more for convenience than anything else. I started using the stroller this week, but I've found that if I wore her in my ktan and zipped her into my coat, no one came close or tried to touch her.

8 days old to my breastfeeding support group and shopping. We go out every single day. I love it!

I think at 10 days, once DH wentback to work, we went out by ourselves for the first time. We did a walk around the neighborhood, and have been out at least once every day since. It's really empowering going out by yourself at first! You need to just do it--it's not scary once you're actually out, and you're like "Oh wow, go me! I"m doing it!". As for grocery shopping, we walk to a store with the stroller or I put LO in the carrier. I've never ever ever had someone try to touch him or lean over him--I feel like those things don't actually happen that much, and if you feel like someone is getting too close, stare them down. Fresh air is good for babies and mommies! Maybe take her to a baby store and have them show you how to use the sling?

@PrincessBaby: yes it is frustrating!! I would wear her in th ebaby bjorn carrier and people would actually lift the blanket I had over her to rub her leg or arm and tell me how precious she is.

I'm a huge wimp and scared of falling with him on ice and snow so we probably won't go out for fun alone until it warms up.

@Hilsy85: It really is empowering! It was the first time I imagined being able to actually do it (be a mom). And I def agree with staring people down . . . I have only had to do it a couple of times, but it really worked. I channeled a mama grizzly.

@PrincessBaby: ha that sounds amazzzzing! My arms are sore today after our first trip out together to the pediatrician so I'm guessing I'd probably still stay in if it were nice, I need to start lifting weights! I've been trying to get out for short stroller walks which are easier.

@PrincessBaby: I would actually be pretty shocked if someone at BRU or BBB could demonstrate proper baby wearing techniques. Especially a ring sling. I would try to find a smaller, boutique type store that sells a wide variety of carriers. The brand of ring sling won't matter. They all work the same.

we went out when i could drive!

in the cart, she goes in the big part - too afraid of it tipping from being top heavy personally. i brought reusable shopping bags to fill as i went, & stored them underneath & in the seat part (i use our grocerys self-scanner)

i found that the only people that got close were when i ran into someone i knew! i was surprised by that

Lo is 7 weeks and we went grocery shoppinh for the first time yesterday. It's cold out and flu season so I've been extra conservative about taking him out besides friends/family houses.

I only have a moby rt now so I used the carseat in the big part of the cart and managed to get a ton of groceries. The bagger helped by putting everything in a second cart and just pushed and pulled two carts to the car.

A slept the whole time and it made me feel great. Functioning normally w baby. I also didnt have issues w ppl as i kept him covered the whole time. I think today we might so shopping for mil's bday gift. Will probably get the moby ready and put him inside the car before heading in...

I havent taken B out alone yet.
When weve gone out as a family, I put an a+a blanket over the carseat to prevent anyone from looking/touching.

Im both anxious and looking forward to getting out on my own. Im going stir-crazy!

Did you get a baby carrier (besides the sling) that you could try out yet? Another thing is if you bring in the car seat, just keep it covered with a muslin blanket. I ALWAYS see that and end up never even getting to see any babies! My GF would always keep her baby covered in the car seat, even when we'd go out to lunch and shop for a couple of hours, she'd only peek in on him once in awhile and no one ever came near him.

I started taking her out alone when she was 5 days old. At church she would stay in her carseat with a blanket covering her.
I wore her in the moby when I grocery shopped (starting at 3 weeks).
People seem to really respect the space of a tiny newborn. Especially if youre wearing her or if there is a blanket over her carseat.
