Twins are almost a month old and are both at least 5 lbs. DH and I are wondering when we can baby wear.
I have the Moby but I see that they recommend starting when the baby is 8 lbs or ask your Dr.
I also have an ergo with infant insert and a beco Gemini.
When did you start wearing your newborn? How old and how heavy were they? What carrier did you use?

I started using the ktan around 2 weeks, but LO was about 9 lbs.

We started with a wrap carrier called hugabub, around 2 weeks. He didn't love it but then a week later he was great and could go long periods in it.

I started with the k'tan and a ring sling from birth, but both of my babies were well above the minimum weight limit.
SSC don't have enough support for little ones until they reach the weight limit.
You could try with a stretchy wrap, but I think at five pounds they are still small for baby wearing. If suggest reading out to your local BWI group for advice. They should have good recommendations for preemie wearing.

I started around 2-3 weeks in the moby, but she was born at 8 lbs. it was a life saver.

I started with a moby at about 5 days old, when she was around 7 and a half pounds.

I wore a loveyduds soft wrap at around 7-8 lbs and two weeks. I had to take my older child to daycare so I would pre-wrap before I got in the car, and then just have to put the baby in the wrap from the carseat. It was so easy and wonderful...I can't believe I didn't babywear with my first child.

They were a month old and had just gotten over birth weight, so about 5 and 6 lbs. I wore B in the Moby and DH wore A in the Ergo with the newborn insert. She was a little small, though, even with the insert.

With my preemie around 6 pounds in a woven wrap. More like 8 or 9 pounds for the ergo.

A soft wrap carrier like the long around 2 weeks when he was back to birth weight 8+lbs. he's 13+ now and it's still my main carrier.

We love the Beco Gemini but honestly it did t work well until she was a bit bigger even though it was rated to 7lbs. She sloshed around in there and it felt unstable. I never used a wrap but that's what I would probably do at that stage next time.

@bluestriped bee: if you are planning on investing overall in Babywearing I would get a woven. Wovens are wonderful for the long haul.

I used my K'Tan with LO at 6 days, and she was about 6lbs. I used the Kangaroo/newborn hold.

I tried at about a month and I'd guess 8-9 lbs with the ergo and infant insert, and then tried the moby around six weeks but didn't really baby wear too six months and then only for a short period. We weren't huge baby wearers.

If it's not a SSC, there's not really a "too small." You can wear a preemie or small infant in a woven or a stretchy. I prefer wovens or a hybrid that doesn't stretch both directions (length and width) for security and support in a carry, but you should be able to use the Moby safely from birth, too. Lorelei was just a few days old, and around 6 pounds. She had to be in an incubator for a couple of days, but right after that we started wearing. For SSC I would wait until they meet the limit or try it with the insert and see how that looks. There's more safety concern in a SSC because they are sized, where a wrap is not-- meaning that they are designed to be worn with a certain height/weight range in mind. Anything above or below that could be unsafe, especially in the early months, due to not being able to have optimal positioning (have you read the TICKS guidelines yet? They're a great way to familiarize yourself with what you need to have to make a carry safe). Here's a link to those: http://babyslingsafety.co.uk/

With my first LO I waited until he was about a month old, but that was because I was recovering from a cesarean and wanted to be cleared by my OB. My LO was already over 10lbs at that point (he was just over 8lbs at birth). We used the k'tan. My second LO is less than a week old and I had a RCS, so I'm also waiting to be cleared by my OB. If I had a vagjnal delivery then I'd probably wear him already because he was 9lbs at birth and hopefully close to his birth weight again.

We started wearing DD in a Boba wrap in the first few days. She was three weeks early and 6.5 lbs, and she was very contented in there.

started using the bjorn at 6 weeks and 8lbs., the ergo with infant insert at 8 weeks (but hated the insert) then ergo w/out insert at 13 weeks.

I wore #2 immediately (we were going to Spring Training games) so at a week old and 6-7lbs in both the Moby (around the house, I had a hard time wrapping) and the Ergo. I swaddled him in an A&A blanket and stuck him in the Ergo without the infant insert.

I put her in the Moby when she was three weeks old. It felt very comfortable and secure and I loved it until the weather got warmer. We started putting her in a mei tai at 6 weeks, then we started using the Ergo with insert at about 7 weeks. Then we switched from the Ergo to a Lillebaby (which doesn't need an infant insert) at 11 weeks.

I would've worn her from the very beginning with a soft wrap! I didn't b/c I was un-educated and by the time I got a k-tan, she was too big and we just waited to get into the Ergo.
