DH made me sit up front with him when DD was around 8 weeks and I've sat up front ever since.
I only ask because I saw my friend sit in the back with her 15 month old and I thought that it was odd!

I always sat in front! I sit in back with him when we go on roadtrips to keep him occupied sometimes but that's it!

Well I had to sit back there with her for awhile most of the time because we had a big dog. I didn't trust him, not that he would hurt her but he'd just want to sit there and lick and bother her the whole time, so I would sit in back and our pup got shot gun. Then I started getting car sick being in the back all the time so we got a mini van. That way they're separated.

I still do most of the time! DS is almost 9 months. It's mostly due to my laziness. The way our car is parked in the garage, I would have to wait until DH pulls out to get in and he would have to let me out when we pull in. Plus I buckle him in and I might as well just stay sitting there.
ETA: I do feel weird sometimes when we pull up places and I'm getting out of the back. lol

I always sit in the front unless I need to feed her breakfast or lunch while we're on the go which has only been a handful of times

I always sat up front, even on the way home from the hospital. Lol, I guess maybe this is weird?

I always sit in the front, except when we have more than two adults in the car, at which point I usually volunteer to sit in the back as it's kind of fun. Other than that, I didn't want LO to get used to having someone in the back with her as that wasn't always going to be possible!

I voted 3-6 months... but even then it was only in situations where he was inconsolable or it was a long car ride.
We're taking a 4 hour drive this week and DH and I will alternate sitting with him to keep him entertained, he is 16 months.

I only ever did on his ride home from the hospital. And sometimes if there's a third adult in the car...unless it's my MIL because she insists on sitting back there with him (so she can stare at him, lol).

I know I wont want to sit in the back with her. Maybe on the way home from the hospital but that's about it. I just don't like backseats.

This thread is making me feel like a weirdo. Maybe I should start sitting in the front seat. We did just drive 2 hours to the beach and I sat up front and he was perfectly fine back there by himself.

I only sit in back if LO is crying or really upset; though usually my husband sits in back with her then. I'm totally fine if I sit up front, but I get carsick in the back

I started sitting up front once we installed the backseat mirror around 3 weeks. I will still sit with her once in a while if she's upset at 11 weeks though.

@FutureMrsMcK: same.
I only ever did on the way home from the hospital. It wasn't even because I was protective much, it was a lot to do with the fact that he spit up a ton and basically I sat back there holding a burp cloth to him and trying to keep the paci from falling out of his mouth.

The only times were: driving home from the hospital and the last 30 minutes of a long roadtrip when he had enough of the carseat.

I never sat in back
I even sat in front on the way home from the hospital!

I only say back there in three way home from the hospital. Moms likes her leg room.

I only sat in the back with him on the way home from the hospital. If I'm trying to keep him awake I will sit back there with him, too.

I sat in the back for about three months because that's the amount of time that she was pretty much inconsolable 24/7. It was the only way to keep the paci in her mouth and stop the screaming. Being able to sit in the front with DH was one of the things that made me realize how much better M was doing.

I sat in the back twice. On the way home from the hospital and on the way to his two month checkup because I needed to give him a bottle.

I've never sat in back. Even in a meltdown. I really never considered it.

I sat in the back with her on the way home and then to her first appointment. That was it!

I sat back there with her once, coming home from the hospital. I get very car sick tho so that did not happen again. It's usually just her and me anyway and I'm driving. But if its the three of us I see no reason for us to be back there.

I always swore I would never sit in the back. But I had to cause it was the only way to help prevent the car seat meltdowns. Around 7 or 8 weeks she got better and since then I just sit in the front and she is fine.

On the way home with my oldest I sat in back other than that I am usually in the front. Once we had the twins there's really not a lot of room.

I sat in the back for the first couple weeks--really just until I started driving again.

Up to a year (maybe longer), and I'm not proud of it. I was a paranoid first time parent who wanted to be there for my LO in all situations. I hated sitting back there because it would make me nauseous. At least I was there each time he threw up or needed comforting, but it was way too long. I felt bad that he couldn't see us while rear facing.

I sit in the back if its a long-ish trip (more than 20 minutes) and he's almost 3 months. Or if there's another adult in the car, I'll sit in the back.

I sit in the back now, unless I'm driving. I think I'll stop once he has better head/neck control... I get nervous about him slouching in the carseat.
persimmon / 1420 posts
Never did, but that's because I barely fit between the car seats. I've squeeze back there during a long road trip when both kids were losing their flippin' minds, but I'll be honest- I silently judge people who sit back there beyond the first two weeks or so.

@mrskc: lol, you are not alone! We can be weirdos together. i also mostly sit in the back at almost 8 months for the reasons you mentioned.
grapefruit / 4085 posts
I've only ever sat in the back if she was completely inconsolable and I was trying to soothe her. About twice so far at 7 months.
coconut / 8498 posts
I stopped within the first month. I admit, I think it's strange when people sit in the back longer than that.
nectarine / 2085 posts
@mrskc: @NovBaby1112: I'm with you ladies. I did start driving LO around at 5 mos or so (so he was alone back there then), but I still sometimes just sit in the back after buckling LO in. He's 2! The distances here are short, so I don't see the point in delaying our departure just so I can walk around the car and sit up front. Plus, it's kind of fun back there!
ETA: Could someone fill me in on why you think it's odd for parents to sit in the back? Fear that it creates too much dependence? Not enough legroom? I guess I'm not seeing the issue.
blogger / cherry / 222 posts
Never sat in the back, except a couple times when someone else was riding with us. Really, it never occurred to me to sit back there.
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I only sat in the back on the trip from the hospital. I didn't want her to get used to it and get mad if I was driving solo and no one was back there! Maybe for a long road trip, though, we will see!
