With DD1, I stopped swaddling at 3.5 months when she was able to fully break out of it in order to suck her thumb.
DD2 is only 8 weeks old but already is showing signs of hating the swaddle but I'm not sure if I should just stop altogether.
When did you stop swaddling? Why?

We stopped just after 3 months. Our LO never "liked" the swaddle, in that she would fight it when we put it on, but she slept longer once she was swaddled nice and tight.
But at 3 months, she started her major sleep regression and was waking up ever 1-2 hours even swaddled, so I decided to put her in the Merlin suit at that point, rather than keep swaddling. We also tried nothing at all, just a fleecesleep sack and that was a major disaster, so it's been the Merlin ever since.

I'm still swaddling at 3.5 months. She loves being swaddled and sleeps great. I'm scared to stop! I hope to transition to Halo sleepsack soon. She loves sucking on her hands and a little A&A security blanket so I hope the transition goes well.

We stopped a few weeks ago (so, 4.5 months) because she learned to roll back to front. She sleeps in halo sleepsacks now and is doing great with them!

We only swaddled on the bottom so his arms were out. He hated having his arms confined.

It was really early for both girls..around 3 weeks or 1 month. They hated being confined!

We stopped swaddling at bedtime around 3 months and moved to the Merlins Magic Sleepsuit. That lasted for about 2 weeks, then she was hating the suit too, so we moved to the Halo sleep sack with the swaddle arms around her chest but arms out. She's much happier to have use of her hands and sucks on them or moves the A&A security blanket around her face.
We stopped because she would go to sleep ok with it, but when she woke up she would freak out trying to bust out of it.

Around 4 months when he started rolling we went cold turkey to the sleep sack. Had to pin his arms down a little and rock him during bed time to calm him down enough for him to take a bottle before nap and bed. He took a bottle before nap and bed til 15 mos!

She was just around 6 months when she started breaking out to sleep on her belly. Before that she was a swaddle lovin baby.

My LO didn't particularly love being swaddled but she had a really strong Moro reflex so if we didn't swaddle she was up constantly because of her flailing arms.
Recently she started busting out of her swaddle every night (even the swaddle strap which is basically a straight jacket!). So we stopped swaddling for naps a little over a week ago, and just stopped swaddling at night a few nights ago (she's 4 months today). It's been pretty painless--I think because she was just ready. We're using the Zipadee-zip and I love it. LO smiles when I put her in it!

4 months because DS was sick and we co-slept so I figured why not. Otherwise, I probably would have kept swaddling until he starts to roll over. DS sleeps better swaddled.
Now, he just sleeps in his pjs. No sleep sack.

Around 4 months here, too. Started with a one armed swaddle for about a month starting at 3 months and then realized that her writhing around grumpily was because she wanted her other arm or. Did a "no-armed swaddle" to test and she slept better! So she just uses wearable blankets now. Losing the startle reflex helped a lot. She moves all around in her sleep but doesn't wake up!

With DS1 we stopped at 3.5 months when he started rolling. DS2 wasn't a fan of the swaddle and only lasted a few days.

We swaddle-weaned at 4.5 months but he wasn't rolling yet or trying to break out...we just felt like it was time. We transitioned with the Magic Sleepsuit (which was awesome!) because he still had a significant startle reflex, and then transitioned to a sleep sack at 6 months.

We stopped right around 3 months. DD always hated being swaddled and would fight it until she got one arm out. We had a weird heat wave right around 3 months and it was too hot to swaddle, so we just stoppped and never went back. During nice weather, DD sleeps in footed PJs without a sleep sack. When it's colder, we add a sleep sack. She actually seems to really like the sleep sack now (she is 10 mo) - she naps *much* better in it (maybe because then she can't play with her socks...).

I also thought to take her out of the swaddle around 8 weeks but she had such a bad startle reflex that i ended up putting her back in the swaddle. We ended up keeping her in the swaddle until 4.5 months, but we did a one-hand swaddle wean at 3 months.

@Rubies: She sleeps in just PJ's but since her naps went roc rap this week, I'm trying out a sleep sack. It's pretty heavy and she didn't protest when I put her down like usual.

She busted out of every swaddle we tried since the beginning so we gave up and moved to sleep sacks by three weeks. She was rolling onto her belly at eight weeks so it wouldn't have been much longer anyway. We didn't have a problem with the startle reflex.

@Rubies: she slept in a rock n play for the first 5 weeks. The nurses at the hospital tucked a receiving blanket around her in the hospital crib tightly so we did that at home with an A&A blanket. But when she moved to the crib we put her in a regular sleep sack.

We didn't stop until almost 6m. DS had learned how to break out around 3-4m, so we had to double swaddle all the time.

It was kind of a drawn out process. We stopped nighttime swaddling around month 5. From month 5-6, she was in a Merlin at night. then we had to move her to a sleep sack. She did not like that at all. She napped at daycare swaddled until she was 5.5 months old. Our lady had a hard time getting E to nap without it and it was an ordeal for sure.

When he learned to roll. He was already busting out of his swaddles by that stage though.
