O is so darn heavy! we have the keyfit 30. I'm trying to hold out until spring to change her over to the "big girl seat" - also kind of sad to put away the bucket seat, because she's getting too big too fast! sigh.
when did you transition?
ETA - right now, she's over 16 lbs at 4 months. so we have a way to go to fit in the infant seat, she's just heavy! we received it from a friend after her daughter outgrew it, so we only bought the convertible

We switched around 9 months. DS started hating the bucket seat and would freak out when we put him in it. He loves his convertible car seat now!

We transitioned DD at 9m when she exceeded the height limit (was about 15# under the weight limit at the time). You could always keep the current seat but not remove it from the car each time. I think DS will probably transition out of the bucket around 7-8m for the same reason, although he is heavier than DD was (DS was 15# at his 4m checkup but DD wasn't 15# until around 12m).

We switched DD at 1 year and DS at 9 months. That's when they reached the height limit on our Graco Snugride 35.

We switched her at about 7 months, because lugging around that stupid bucket seat was such a pain.

We are still using our buckets at almost 7 months. With 2, it is just easier to get everyone ready still in the house. But I think by 9 months we'll start leaving the buckets in the car. We'll just see when they outgrow them, but probably no later than a year.

ETA: At 5 months, we're still in the infant car seat . . . at her last checkup (4 months), BabyGloss weighed in at 13lbs. 4 oz.

LO is 9 months, and we're still using the infant seat just because it's smaller. We very rarely take it out of the car. She is close to the height limit, though. I think we'll switch in about a month.

We switched just before his first birthday. I wanted to get every penny's worth out of our infant seat. He was at the height limit but no where near the weight limit. I'm planning on rear-facing as long as possible because he's such a light weight but his long legs are all scrunched up, every car trip is a battle.

@rachiecakes: we have the opposite problem! she's a little shorty but total tank. luckily we got the infant seat from the woman I nannied for, so it was free - but I'd be doing the same thing as you if we'd paid for it!

We're hoping to transition soon because she's so heavy. She was 27 inches and 18 lb at her 6 month appointment. We also think she just doesn't like her infant seat anymore so we'll probably switch in the next couple of weeks (she's 7 months old on Monday).

We are still using infant seat (like @BelugaBean, she was 27 inches and 18lb at 6 month appointment). If I'm by myself, I just leave seat in car and get her in and out of it there (so heavy!) My mom has a convertible carseat in her car that LO rides in frequently but her legs get so cramped- is there a way to avoid that or is it just a pitfall of rear facing- which we plan to do for 2 years.

@SorryCharlie: Even at 13 pounds, with my almost 25 pound car seat (Britax Chaperone), lugging BabyGloss around in the car seat for any distance is a feat! My only saving grace is that I can quickly snap the seat into our stroller frame (B-Ready). But man - it gets heavy in a hurry! *phew*

We just put in the convertible seat yesterday (just over 6 months). He's close to 20lbs and 30", and it was just a fight to get him in it.

We have the Maxi Cosi Mico infant seat and even though it goes up to 22lbs, DD is about 11lbs now and it is such a PITA to get her in and out of it already! Even DH was like,"I feel like she's getting kind of big for this thing..." So I don't know what to do. I can't imagine her weighing 2x as much and still getting in it! It makes me wonder if I should go ahead and get a convertible and make our lives easier getting her in and out???

I need to start investigating convertible options. He doesn't sleep in the infant one anyways.

We switched at around 6 months. She was getting heavy and we found that we liked having her in the Ergo more than lugging around the car seat. I find it much easier to get her into the convertible car seat for what it's worth.

@SoTomorrow: That is good to know! It is kind of a struggle to get her in and out of her infant seat. And we have had really really good recent experiences with her in her carrier (we have the Beco Gemini), so that may become the plan sooner than expected.

oh man.... we should switch soon, but our 2 door civic coupe is so tiny, i don't know how a convertible will fit. Not sure if it even will fit at all, let alone how to get him in there, what with me preggers and all
right now he is 8.5 months, at least 20lbs, and 95% for height. he is in the regular chicco keyfit (max 22 lbs). SO HEAVY. better go car shopping this weekend!
ETA: thankfully he doesn't seem to mind the seat... phew!

We have our convertible already but are holding out, I really want to make it a few more months. LO falls asleep in the bucket seat on the way home from daycare a few days a week, and it's also easier in the cold with the fleece carseat cover vs. figuring out coats/blankets/etc that are safe with a convertible seat. She's just under 28" and 17.5 lbs right now, so we only have two more inches!

Just switched last night at nearly 7 months. I've been ready to switch for a long time though, we just slacked on reading the manuals and making the appt to get them checked after installing them. DS is 19 lbs and was SO HEAVY in the carrier! (although it was really nice having him fall asleep and stay asleep in there...sigh)

LMW is almost 7 months, 22 pounds at the 6 months appointment, and we are... still in the bucket seat...!!! It's SO HEAVY (so RIDICULOUSLY HEAVY!!!!) but really too convenient to give up, especially when I'm picking up Wagon Jr. from daycare solo with her in tow. I just lug her seat into the hall, put her down facing the room full of kids, then get Wagon Jr.'s stuff together. She can't even sit up on her own yet so I don't think we can transition yet. My back and arms pay the price

We just switched at 10 months. He's still under the weight limit since he's only 20lbs but he's getting too long. I dealt with the weight issue by always popping him into the snap 'n go stroller frame whenever I had to carry him anywhere further than the car to door of a house. So I never had to carry him far. I loved the convenience of keeping him in the bucket seat for as long as possible.

LO is 41/2 months, and still in her bucket. She is only 12 lbs (and that's being generous) so we haven't had the issue yet. My concern is her length, she's really long so I'm scared we will have to switch her sooner than I want. I feel like she's too little to be in the big one! ha
