My 20month old has a new habit, every night as soon as I put her in her crib she grabs her diaper and says poo poo, which means she wants to poop, however it seems to be a ploy to just avoid /delay her bedtime. I find this so strange. If I do take her
Out of the crib and put her on the potty she just wants to play. Now when that doesn't work she will start hold her nose and say "nose" over and over, she means she wants me to get out the nose frida even though her nose isn't runny, and it all seems to be just to delay bed time. Is this behavior strange

I think she is just having fun... thinking of things she wants to do/ would rather be doing than going to sleep... like, "hmm... lets check the mail!" Or whatever thing you usually do.

At 10 months my son was taking pieces of food he doesn't want to eat and stuffing it under his leg or dropping it over the side of the high chair...while maintaining direct eye contact with me. They learn deception EARLY!!

My LO is a frequent abuser of the fake-poop-at-bedtime ploy as well.

Sounds like she's great at any kind of non-preferred task avoidance.
My late brother could lie by the time he was 20 months old but he was hyperverbal and talked really, really early. I remember he was about 3 and told my mom an elaborate story about how I bit him on the arm. He'd been telling her I'd bit him a lot at that time. My mom finally looked at the bite marks and figured out he was biting himself and making up stories! He was a funny kid

I wouldn't call it lying, just classic toddler manipulation.

I would start to consider it a lie when LO wants to get someone in trouble or get himself/herself out of trouble. I remember my niece first lied at 2-3, she would scratch her mosquito bites so hard to where it bled but said her little bother scratched her. We knew it was a lie because you can tell it was a mesquite bite. Otherwise yes it's just toddler manipulation.

When DD isn't supposed to have an object in her mouth and I ask for it, she tries to be sneaky and pretends to put something in my hand. She reaches into her mouth and tries to have over air over and over. Sneaky sneak! She's been doing that since she just learned to walk.
