We typically let LO open one gift on Xmas Eve. Then everything else morning of. Last year things got a little crazy with the grandparents and cousins and I completely forgot about her stocking! LOL We didn't end up opening stocking gifts till days after. Thinking I might start stockings on Xmas eve instead!

Growing up, stockings were always the one thing we could get into without our parents there. We were allowed to go through and open those while they slept/slowly woke up. That way we were occupied and they could be there for everything else. I like the idea and plan on starting that when LO's are old enough. Right now at 2 and a month old, they won't get it.

@Mrs Hedgehog: I like this too! Santa always filled our stockings, so opening them on xmas eve wouldn't have worked for us. I think we will probably do the same

Same as @Mrs Hedgehog: our stockings were always left outside our bedroom doors and it was the one thing we could open without our parents. That usually kept us (somewhat) sated until about 6:30 or 7 when they would finally let us wake them!

We always did stockings and grandparent gifts before breakfast (time difference meant they always called and we hadn't opened their gifts so we started doing that), then other gifts after breakfast. It made for a nice break in the festivities!

I think we always did stockings last. But my memory is so fuzzy PP. I asked DH and they always did stockings first. Until recently, at their house we always wrapped all items in the stockings, too. My MIL explained that it kept the kids occupied longer, which was good bc they always had hangovers on Christmas morning.

We only do stockings--no other gifts--so we open them first thing before visiting grandparents, etc.

Growing up stockings were from Santa so we opened them on Christmas morning. MIL does stockings for everyone and we open them after we finish opening presents. We spend Christmas Eve with them. LO will probably open his stocking from us on Christmas morning since we get home from the IL's house late.

Bed while I was sleeping and I was allowed to open and play with these before my my parents woke up. Genius!

Similar to a lot of others it was always first thing. We always stayed at my grandparents house so my grandma was up with up. We had to wait for everyone else to open any presents.

Every year it was Stockings, Church, Breakfast, Presents. We did that last year when LO was almost 2 (well grandparents went to church, DH & I aren't religious). It was so cute to watch LO wait to open the presents. I don't think it will go over so well this year.

@MamaG: Are you from Wisconsin? we do stockings for St. Nick's too, but my DH is from Minnesota and really doesn't get it. I can't imagine all the explaining I'm going to have to do to Californians....
Growing up we got stocking for St. Nick's and then stockings first thing x-mas morning. Like others we could open them without our parents. Then the presents under the tree when everyone was ready

We do one gift on Christmas eve. Stockings are first to be opened. Usually my mom would put our stockings with our gifts. It helped to separate out the gifts between all the kids. We'll do the same as LO gets older.

Christmas morning! Stockings are right when we wake up. Get to play with the goodies while waiting for everyone to get up.

@Ms.Badger: yes, I am. I suffer the same problem. My husband also doesn't understand and we live in Texas. I keep the tradition alive. We also use the little chocolate advent calendars. Just got ours today.

I never really understood how you could open your stockings BEFORE Santa came, it's not like he has the time to visit twice....
We've always opened ours first thing in the morning. My sisters an I were allowed to oen them as soon as we woke up, then we had to have breakfast before we woke mom up, even if it was a poptart, lol.

Santa fills the stockings so obviously not until Christmas morning. In my family we did stockings first, then presents, then breakfast. The stockings in your room or by your door is genius though!

@lucy123: @Ms.Badger: @MamaG: _Another St. Nick-er here! I was born in Wisconsin. We've since taken the tradition out easiest and now have a DD in NY. We'll continue it! Well more me than DH since it's my tradition... I don't know if we'll do Santa stockings too (DH's tradition). St. Nick always brought us an ornament, holiday socks or jewelry/watch each year. I want to start something like that with DD - I think pajamas each year from St. Nick?
