Lol, my lo still doesn't remember things that happened a week ago. But I still make sure we're careful about what we say in front of her because I don't know when shell start understanding.

From what I've learned, they have long term memory once they have complex sentence structure. (Something about language helping to set down memories... and Noam Chomsky and stuff!)

I have snapshot memories from before the age of 2, but then pretty solid continuous long term memories after the age of 2.

I can still corroborate memories that I've never discussed before with my parents to get dates on them. "Mom, remember when we went into that lady's garage and I fell and hit my lip and her black dog came up to me and was licking me?" And she'll say, "Yup that happened in September of the year you were 2." (notice I excluded the actual year so that I don't feel so old!)

I don't know what age they start remembering but my husband remember things from when he was younger than 1! He has CRAZY good memory!!!

Hmmmm. My LO doesn't speak very much but he seems to remember things from weeks ago that he's only experienced once. For example, we went to my MIL's house and we were cleaning her TV screen with a swiffer wipe. Two weeks later, I bought a box of swiffer wipes and he grabbed one and started cleaning our own TV with it. So I know there are some things he retains in his long-term memory.
