LO is obsessed with SHOES and loves to chew on them (eww). Now that he crawls crazy fast I've started putting them up on the closet ledge.... only to come out from the kitchen and find him pulling them down after pulling up on the edge (it's a weird closet that is built-in).
He looked so impish when I "caught" him! He is 7.5 months old and I'm wondering when he could potentially understand what being naughty is! (Light hearted naughty.. obviously I'm not reprimanding my baby at this stage!)

I have no idea when that starts but I swear my niece seemed to learn to be "sneaky" VERY early on, before 1yr!

Once LO became mobile at 7-8 months, we had to start redirecting for curiosity. Especially with cords (omg, the cords! They are taking over the house!). But at 10ish months, she would look at us and then slowly make her way over to whatever we didn't want her to touch... It was very obvious that she realized it was a no-no, and she was looking for a reaction.

My 9 months old is obsessed with shoes too. We have to keep them up high. We have these two shelves built in that we put our shoes on. He can't reach the top shelf so we put all our shoes there and DH put a few pairs of his baby shoes that have never been worn on the shelf. So not he pulls up and grabs his baby shoes.
I'm not sure if he understands what he should and shouldn't do yet. I feel like sometimes he seems to do things sneakily.

I think I read somewhere that between 9-10 months babies start gaining long-term memory skills. So they do something and watch for your reaction. They file that away and then do it again (and again and again) to see if the reaction remains the same. Oh, little scientists!!

Yea my 14 month old definitely knows somethings are forbidden but still tries anyway, and when I give her the stern look she makes a mean face or sometimes cries

@scg00387: aaaaah A is EXACTLY the same with shoes and she for sure knows she's not meant to have them. When I get up to move her away from them she squeals with glee and crawls even faster, ha ha. Not sure it's naughtiness per se but she definitely knows she's pushing boundaries and finds it funny.

@scg00387: Flip flops in particular, lol. I like to *think* I catch her every time before it enters her mouth but honestly, I can't swear to it. I think I let the whole super scared of germs things go the first time I caught her sneaking one towards her mouth, ha ha.

Lorelei is funny because she likes to call others out on being "naughty," but of course she never is. 
We don't call people naughty at our house, but we do say it to the dogs sometimes, and she is forever telling Freckles, "Freckles naughty." Or she's started telling Ellie she is "on break." She's still at an age where we do lots more modeling, talking through feelings, and re-directing, so I don't treat it the same as we do for Ellie exactly.

LO was "naughty" at about 10 months when he started crawling and getting into troubles. My mom who watches him in the day, has a ton of pictures of him getting into troublesome situations. Like what's your end game little one!! ^_^

@travelgirl1: Yeah... I let LO crawl on the dressing room floor at Old Navy because he was getting antsy in the stroller and he was licking the stroller tire

@Mrs. Twine: We're working on our dog-language because I know it won't be long before it's being repeated! It's a common refrain of "why are you sooo stupiiddd yoshi" (said lovingly but I certainly wouldn't want to hear our son say that to anyone!!)

Yeah, watch out with the dog stuff because it will get parroted. Lorelei has started saying, "Freckles, quiet. QUIIIIIIIET!" In this loud mean voice because she has heard us fuss at him. Makes me feel like a giant mean dog-mama. I never realized how much of that stuff she internalized, but many of her first words and phrases had to do with things I said to Freckles often.
