Ours is always on the 31st regardless of the day of the week.
We were out in western PA this weekend and several towns were doing it Sunday evening. We asked my DH's aunt and she said they always do it the Sunday before Halloween.
When is yours?

I think ours is almost always on Halloween, unless the weather is funky. This year it's on Halloween from 6:00 - 8:00!

I had no idea that there was even official times for trick or treating. I have always known it to be on Oct 31st and to expect kids at the door pretty much anytime of the night.

@Mamaof2: yeah. The halloween curfew in town is 8. It comes in waves though, the little ones early, then a lull until thr older oned come out, then really only a few from 7-8. A lot of people set the candy bowl on the porch at 7 or so.

Halloween night, Oct 31st. My neighborhood gets around to it late when the sun goes down even for the smaller kids. There's only about 1.5 hours that we get a decent stream of trick or treaters.

Always on Halloween, I don't know of any official times. I think most people turn off their lights by 8:30 or 9 or else you'll get all of the obnoxious older kids that are too old to be trick or treating!

Are there places where it happens on another day, other than Halloween? This is the first I've ever heard of anything like that!
It's always on halloween in our City (and province, as far as I know).
Usually starts around 6:00pm for the littles and goes until 8 or 9 pm for the teens.

@.twist.: she said their rationale is that Sunday evening the roads tend to be empty so its safer for pedestrians walking around

Always on the 31st, and I've never heard of there being set times!

@Mamaof2: haha weird. I guess I kind of think that people here are much more cautious of children on the roads and stuff on Halloween. Unspoken rule to just drive slow?

Ours is always on halloween, though our town is throwing a trunk or treat on Wednesday afternoon that we might go to.

Always on Halloween. Although I do remember it being "postponed" a week one year growing up due to a snow storm.

Halloween starting at dusk (according to me). Almost everyone in our neighborhood is dual income families so you won't get any candy before 6pm when everyone gets home from work.

Always on Halloween. I am surprised that it is ever not? How does that even logistically work? A town just arbitrarily says it's some other day? Also surprised by the hours some have posted. And again the logistics behind that.

@Leialou: Growing up we always had to wait until dark to go. It seems so weird to me that most kids now days go before it gets dark.

I always assumed it was on actually Halloween night between 6pm - 8/9pm.
