What do you do when your kids refuse to take a chewable Dramamine before a long car ride?
This has happened a few times and it has been challenging! Sometimes we crush the pill and mix it into a smoothie - but sometimes even that doesn't work.

Are you giving them the kid ones? I bought them recently for DS and they supposedly taste like grape candy.

Do they want to go on the car ride / get to the destination? I'd just tell them they have to, or no car ride - admittedly this backfires on me sometimes and LO calls my bluff!

She loves the taste so we haven't run into this yet.

Have you tried my mom's trick? Crush the pill and mix with a spoonful of jam. Who doesn't want to eat jam?

@mrbee: have you tried powdered ginger capsules? I have motion sickness and they work better for me, plus no drowsiness. I don't know if you could get them to swallow a pill though. Maybe candied ginger or ginger tea?

@MrsHansen82: It's tough to get her to take a pill... but will try the candied ginger if we can't get her to take the dramamine!

I've heard about motion sickness patches. Do they make those for kids?

@Grace: That would have had me gagging as a kid! I was super sensitive to the texture of jam. I would complain so much if I had "blobs" on my pb and J. Such a brat in hindsight! I really wasn't a picky kid either. LOL!

@mrbee: What about good old fashioned bribery then? Promise a piece of candy if she takes the pill first! I'd much rather give into candy than deal with puking.

@lamariniere: She is sooo stubborn! She will refuse everything, and just say she she doesn't want to go where we're going. Even if it's an amusement park or some place she really wants to go!
Finally got her to take the dramamine... crushed it and rolled two gummi bears around in it, and then rolled them around in sugar too to disguise the taste!
