my SIL is constantly saying stuff like "why can't you just skip her nap and let her nap in the car?" or "just keep her out til 11, I mean she can sleep in your arms and you can plop in her in bed when you get home," or "when I am a parent I will probably leave my baby overnight for the first time at 6 weeks or something. I am sure I will need a break. I can't believe your LO is a year and you haven't left her yet!"

All. The. Time. Usually regarding sleep, "can't you just stay a few more hours, I'm sure she will be fine, she will be excited to be out and about." Um no, my kid is a diaster if she's ready for bed, I will not let her get overly tired for she will be a wreck for the next few days, not worth it.

@shopaholic: Meeee too. My dad's friend's daughter was asking me why my LO was so loud (she was squealing with glee at a pork bun at a LOUD dim sum restaurant) and she told me her 7 year old never behaved like that. Eewhhh!

I had a nonparent friend tell me everything about parenting. He even voiced his opinion about breastfeeding. We aren't friends anymore.

I have another friend who said her child won't use a paci. Now I also said I'd rather my LO didn't use a paci, but I was open minded enough to know that I don't always get what I want and had some around just in case. And then I ended up wanting her to use it because she had reflux and was screaming all the time, but she didn't want it. Turns out she's a thumb sucker.

Yes! I am a non-parent and am horrified when I hear others make "absolute" or judgmental comments. I have a co-worker who does this about EVERYTHING, so I recently started following up on her comments with "oh, so how many kids do you have?" or a similar question knowing she's never been in the situation. I understand people who are trying to empathize and say something like "Oh I can imagine how difficult ... may be ..." But not when she's giving advice about labor or child-rearing and clearly does not have children. Oy.

My husband recently sprang on me that *if* my mom is here when I deliver LO (that's still an if), he'll probably just go back in to work and take his 1 week paternity leave later, because we won't need him. I'm like....YES, I will still need you. I love my mom, but I don't want her to help me with breastfeeding!!
