I believe the Munchkin bottle warmer should fit most bottles. We used Tommee Tippees and they fit just fine (and they are pretty fat.)

Bottles are hard because not every baby likes certain ones. We started out using Medela bottles and then switched to Tommee Tippees when she was getting too much air. We loved the Tommee Tippees!

I registered for a few bottles of 2 different brands and it is my biggest registry regret. I should have bought just 1 4oz bottle of one brand, tried it, identified what she did/didn't like about it and then bought different ones based upon those issues. i now have 10+ bottles in my house she doesn't use. also, i went with plastic because I felt glass bottles were too heavy.

If you're planning on BFing, i recommend tommee tippee or lansinoh mOmma bottles. we've never used a warmer.

I didn't register for bottles! I was too overwhelmed by choices. We have a few glass ones but they make ds gassy. So we used the one that came with our pump, but he took in a lot of air with that too. So I just bought an avent one and that's been working well. I have a generic bottle warmer that fits most bottles it says.

@Littlebit: I think a lot of bottles work with the Medela, but I know the Avent ones technically don't, but they make adapters to fit! I ended up getting a second pump through insurance and it was a Medela and I just got adapters so I could continuing using my Avent bottles.

@Littlebit: though I agree, the feeding section was so overwhelming. Every brand claimed to be THE BEST and I was like, there can't possibly be an entire aisle with "the best" bottles!

My aunt used and loved the drop ins with both her kids, so I went with those because they're the only ones I could get a first hand review on, and we ended up loving them.

It is completely overwhelming... but a few thoughts:

- If you plan to EBF, you will only need 4 oz bottles, so I would start by just registering for some of those. You can always buy 8 oz bottles later if you find you want them.
- We really liked having glass (I feel like they are easier to clean and I am less worried about putting them in the dishwasher), but @Smurfette: is right - most day cares won't take glass (we have a nanny). So think about your child care situation.
- Do you plan to pump directly into bottles? In that case, you definitely don't want glass, and you want to make sure you are getting bottles (most of them are) that are a standard mouth size so they fit your pump.

Most importantly, though - I have heard that you need to try a few bottles before you find one you love, I would be hesitant to register for a lot of bottles. We started with one set (I think 3 bottles) of Dr. Brown's glass bottles in the 4 oz size. Luckily, DD took to them with no problem, so we bought more and used those exclusively until we bottle weaned. (And I will say that I *loved* my Dr. Brown's. They have a ton of parts and are a pain to take apart and put back together, but I put everything in the dishwasher and they held up really well over more than a year - we will definitely be able to use them again for LO #2.)

Bottles are relatively cheap in comparison to other baby items, so I might concentrate my registry on other things and worry about bottles later. You won't quite know what you need until your baby is here and you see how feeding is going, etc.

One last thought - are you sure you want a bottle warmer? We (and our nanny) always used a mug of hot water and I really preferred that. If you are EBFing, BM is quite sensitive to heat. I found that my bottle warmer scalded my milk, even on a really low setting/less time.

@pui: Ha ha. YES! I tried to attach my glass bottles to my pump and hands free bra once. Let's just say it was a total disaster... the bottles were so heavy that they dragged my bra off.

I - over the course of 8+ months of pumping - pumped into the bottles that came with my pump (Ameda), then transferred the milk to the glass bottles. It was a pain - and an extra set of bottles to wash every day - because you lose a little bit of milk every time you transfer it.

@Littlebit: if you're not sure if you'll be BFing or formula feeding, i'd suggest maybe waiting on bottles. or register for them and don't open the box, so you can return if you change your mind! I made the mistake of washing everything and throwing out the box! if you end up formula feeding, you may want different size bottles, and you may not care about the same things as you would with a BF baby (similar to breast, slow flow).

I saw an ad for Latch bottles in the BRU advertising. They sounded pretty cool, so I registered for those.

I don't believe that you need to get a million bottles, in some parts of the world there aren't a lot of options, so you just have to deal with what's available.

Having said that, we used the Avent system. I liked them because you had the option to switch out nipples for soft or hard spouts and you could also add a handle to them so they can be held easier by the baby later on.

Also good to note is that if your baby has a latex or silicone sensitivity, the Playtex Drop In line carries both, so you can choose one or the other. I used these almost exculsively when we travelled.

We had a generic warmer, the simpler the better on that one!

I wasn't concerned about glass v. plastic so we went with plastic. We registered for the newborn starter kit Tommee Tippee bottles (TT has gotten a lot of good reviews on here and elsewhere so that's why we went with those). The kit came with a few small bottles and a few big bottles and a bottle brush. Just a warning about Dr. Browns--not sure if the glass are the same but we tried the plastic ones while LO was on a bottle strike and cleaning them was a b*tch because of all the parts. I was actually glad when she rejected them!

ETA: TT makes bottle adapters that allow you to pump directly into the bottles from the pump

@Littlebit: I had 3 boxes so I the ones we opened we couldn't return. Which is why buying an individual one is a good idea till you know what kind LO likes

@littlebit subscribing to this! The feeding section is where I had a bit of a meltdown last week while registering - holy overwhelming.

Also, a follow up question is - if you got your pump through insurance, did that sway your bottle choice? Since I am not able to get my pump until 30 days before delivery, I don't even know which one I will end up with. I think they have Medela and Avent but I'm not sure...

i have about 4-5 brands on my register of the 4-5oz bottles, one of each kind i want to try.

We registered for Medela bottles for the pump and Dr. Brown's based on reading. I knew I was going to be primarily breast feeding him, but when I went back to work, he'd have to have bottles from my mom. I wanted something close to BF.

We tried several bottles before deciding on the Dr Browns (we tried Tommee Tippee, Dr. B's, just putting a nipple on the Medela, and the Medela Calma). LO loves them, and I don't mind the cleanup. We have a little storage box for the dishwasher that fits all the parts for 3 of the bottles.

I pump into the Medela bottles that go with my PISA, and I bring them to my mom's every day when I pick LO up. She makes up the bottles then. At the end of the week, I bag/freeze anything that's left.

In terms of the bottle warmer, we usually use a pot of water on the stove. My mom has a car warmer just in case she needs it (the munchkin one, I think).

@Cole: I agree. I've got a 3 pack of Avents to bring back because DD likes the Medela system and Calma nipple, so it was silly for us to register.

I'd either register for a few 3 or 4 packs and keep them sealed w/ the receipt, or just see if you like the reviews on the Medela bottles (you usually get 4 5oz bottles with your pump). Calma is their new breastfeeding nipple, and while it has a learning curve, it's been great for DD and she's back and forth boob to bottle no problem. I've also had no problem using the Medela bottles in our two different warmers.

If glass is important to you, I think the main brands that make them are Dr. Brown's, Born Free, Avent, and Lifefactory. Our daycare is fine with glass, and I've heard of others that allow glass as long as it has a silicone sleeve. We use Avent (DD isn't picky about bottles, and they have few parts/are easy to clean) but the only sleeve available is from a third-party maker and has meh reviews. I did drop one the other day with no issues, though! It just bounced. Glass is quite a bit pricier than plastic so I regret not deciding on it sooner, since I didn't put it on my registry and had to buy the bottles myself later on.

@Smurfette: I guess that was confusing... my 4 oz bottles actually fit 6 oz, so I never needed a bigger size.
