I have heard so many conflicting things, I would like the hive's opinion! When did you start drinking red raspberry leaf tea? I have a box at home and I'm 35 weeks.

@blackbird: yeah my sister suggested 36 weeks!
@SAHM0811: did you find it had any effect?

@sslm: "OMG yes" is my first response when anyone asks me that!!! But, I have to say too, that it was with my second baby, so I'm not sure how much of that factor comes into play because second babies usually come much faster anyway. But let me tell you, my contractions were intense. They peaked very fast and they lasted long. So they were very efficient. In fact, during the most painful parts, I was cursing myself for drinking so much RRL tea in my head, lol. For at least the last month, I was drinking at least 4 cups a day (I made 2 cups at a time and chilled it in my water bottle. Drank that twice a day).
My first twinges/contractions occurred at 1pm. By 3pm they were moderate. By 4 and 5pm, very very strong.... Felt an urge to push at around 6pm (went to hospital).... Got checked at 6:45pm and was 9.5cm... Delivered baby by 7pm.

I drank my first at 40+5, I think I had 4-5 cups in 2 days, had her at 41w, lol.

I asked my midwife this at my appointment last week (34 weeks). She said anytime is fine, so I've been drinking a couple cups a day since then. She said to ramp up to at least three very strongly brewed cups per day once I hit 37 weeks.

I was just going to ask how much to drink.... 3 cups seems manageable.
The box says it tastes like black tea (my least favorite)

@blackbird: I am a tea drinker, so it tastes fine to me, but I would say it tastes more herbal than black tea. I compared it to a strong chamomile. I've heard that for those who find it difficult to get down it's best to drink it iced and with a little honey

I did it iced 3-4x a day starting at 36 weeks. I was induced at 38 weeks but was already 2cm!

*bump*
One midwife told me start drinking it at 36 weeks, another said 32 weeks. I'll be 32 weeks Friday. Any new experiences of when you started drinking it?

I think I was told not before 37 weeks. I had 2-3 cups a day after that point. I can't remember what benefits it's meant to have, but I had a long labour, but didn't have to push for long and didn't tear.

Interestingly, I only ever drank two cups on 39w6d and I went into labor later that night! I guess I was probably already in early labor when I drank it but my labor was fast and furious! No tearing and in less than an hour from when we got to the hospital!

I didn't ask my doctor - just started using it at about 36.5 weeks. I'm 38 weeks today and I have been consistently drinking 4 cups a day.

I have an apt this Friday with a different midwife, and will ask her. I'll average the three responses, and go from there

I never updated. The third midwife told me to start it at 36 weeks. She also did her thesis on red raspberry leaf tea, and did a few studies on it in grad school. Her research showed it had no effect, and I was better off walking like crazy!
