I'm still working on understanding the obsession with play kitchens, but was wondering when you gave your LO one. I'm trying to figure out if this would be something to request for this year's Christmas/birthday or wait until next year.

We will be getting one this year and she will be 1.5. She only gets toys for her birthday and Christmas for the most part, especially something that big so we figured Christmas will be a good time.

Someone lent their old kitchen to us when dd was 15 months old. She loved it. We kept it for a few months and gave it back. Haven't replaced it and probably won't until we move and the kids have a play room.

@MaisyMay: I would wait past 1 (although I know Mrs. Bee said Charlie loves his before turning 1). Most kids I know don't really get it until they are closer to 1 1/2.

DD received hers as a gift for her first birthday and took to it right away. Now that she's 2, she knows more about what a kitchen is and can play with it in more imaginative ways.

My parents got ours for their 1st birthday and they've loved it. A lot of their play is just messing with the doors and knobs, and loading and unloading food into cabinets and containers, but they started kitchen mimicry (filling a glass at the faucet, etc) after about a month with it. I'm glad we got it sooner. I also like that it's something that multiple kids can play with simultaneously.

We bought LO a play kitchen right before he turned one for his birthday. He played with it everyday for about a year before his obsession turned into trains. He started getting back into it recently at 2.5 years old and likes to cook and utilize the kitchen.

we got it at 9 months and it was played with so much from day 1. at the time it helped him learn to stand and cruise, and he love opening and closing all the doors.
it still gets played with charlie and olive at almost 2 and almost 4!

We got LO one for Christmas when she was 14 months. She liked opening and closing the doors and moving things from shelf to shelf and cupboard to cupboard right away. She started using it for imaginative play within a month. She's 23 months now and has played with it pretty much every day since we got it. Now her imaginative play with it is very elaborate. It's her most used toy. Since we have the space for it, I'm glad we got it earlier rather than waiting since she uses it so much.
