@Sophia: I have a lot to say about the way we shame girls for wearing makeup and dressing certain ways - it makes me furious. We live in a shame free household. She'll be allowed to wear whatever clothing and makeup and hair and whatever she wants (within practical limits for cold and wet and supportive footware etc) and decide what she's into without judgement from us.

@locavore_mama: I started mine when I was 12 and I can reasonably assume it would be plus or minus a year or so for any daughter I have (no medical reason, this is based solely on the women in my family) so that age range is when I feel it is acceptable to begin wearing makeup. Now, if she still hadn't started her period by say 15, then I'd probably allow it prior to her period.
