If I'm signing a letter from both of us? I would put mine first if I'm writing it.

It actually depends on the purpose. For wedding/birthday cards, if I'm closer to the friend, I'll put my name first. For bills, taxes, legal documents, I put DH's name first. Although I'd say that my name comes first on our joint bank accounts.

I usually put his first. But I would never, ever put "Mr. and Mrs. DH last name." Hate that. At our wedding we were introduced as "Mr. And Mrs. DH and Arden last name". I still have a first name people, and it isn't Mrs.

It depends who it's to, for my friends or family then I put me first, for his I put his first. We don't have joint friends really, we tended to have become friends with each others existing friends instead.

@mrbee: Same...if it's my side of the family, I go first...for his, he goes first.

My name. The proper way says that you should "never to separate a man's first name from his last name", so his name should go second.

If I'm writing it, I write mine first. We have different last names, so I dont think it matter either way, really.

For signing a letter I put his name, but our stamp for outgoing mail has my name first.

@Mrs tartan: Good point. This is true.
@lioneyes: Oh, is that rule? Never knew.
@mrbee: Unless I'm writing to my friend or my family, my SO's name usually always goes first. Our return labels have his name first. I think it's a mental thing. I think I want him to always be first. Maybe a tiny part of it is I make most of the decisions in the house because I'm the breadwinner (I don't like that term but it describes us) and if my name is first, it might make it seem like I'm more powerful and I don't want that at all. Haha. Psychology in why I do things. I don't think he realizes why I always do that. I think I've asked him and he doesn't care.

@bluestriped bee: Haha, I've always put the woman's name first because I believe in the woman being first...since we seem to get shafted so often. And I might have read some etiquette thing about it. But funny how we actually address things according to how we feel about life!

Mine first if it's to my family/friends, and vice versa if it's his fam/friends. If that doesn't apply, I usually put my name first.

Usually his first. I thought our wedding invitation was the last time a woman's name goes first...I forgot where I heard/read that

@lioneyes: yep. that's why i do mine first! but then we have a debate about where LO's name goes in the line up!

It depends on who the reader is: my friend? my name first; his friend? his name first, for example.

It depends.
My family/friends, mine/sometimes mine.
His family/friends, his.
Mutual friends, his.

I'm in the it depends camp. His family, his name first. Everyone else, mine first!

His name first. Same way I address my clients at the law office.
